So `details`/`summary` disclosures...

Do y'all need/want/like custom icons, or do you use them "stock" in your UIs?

The ADHD-autism experience One fun little ADHD superpower is the ability to notice patterns and predict their logical conclusions earlier and more frequently than neurotypical folks. In my life as a web developer, itโ€™s made me particularly good at building systems to make repeated tasks faster/easier, debugging code, and breaking complex problems down into smaller, more manageable parts. Outside of my coding life, it helped keep me safe during the early misinformation years of the pandemic.

"Citation needed" is absolutely the best response here!

Because you're right. This gets parroted A LOT, and I've yet to see any examples that stand up to scrutiny or time.

Right? "The markets will control that. Capitalism works with people's natural greed and corrects itself."

Yea, ok.

Nevermind that the notion humans are naturally *exclusively* greedy is a load of horseshit, anyways. You get what you incentivize.

Until we pass a nationwide ban on gerrymandering (which we need), Democrats should gerrymander every state to the fullest extent. 52-0 in CA, 17-0 in IL, and so on. No more unilateral disarmament. Time to get serious about fighting back.

If the argument against socialism or anarchy is that humans are too greedy and corrupt for it to work... why would centralizing power in the hands of a few greedy and corrupt people be BETTER than spreading it over the many?

Here here! โœŠ

It would also be cool if more folks recognized how inextricably linked the two are.

It's still astonishing to me that Zuck survived his ridiculous bet on the Metaverse. He changed the company's name FFS. No normal employee could fuck up as majorly as some of these "innovators" do.

Yo: .

โ€œThey are not coming for your abortionโ€ said all the way up until the year before Roe fell.

And then โ€œokay Roe fell, but you canโ€™t convince me they are going to try and stop access to contraception or IVF

You think we like being right about THIS?!

Iโ€™d rather be right about Powerball

Looks like you actually have the setup, though.

NGL, this is why I got into web dev in the first place. I like making things but suck at working with my hands, so... web dev it is!

I've seen a few "thought leader" types in our space that I'd never expect to shill for AI going super hard for lately. It's extremely disappointing.

Building extensible frontend systems Today, I want to talk about how to build frontend systemsโ€”design systems, UI libraries, and so onโ€”that can be easily extended for use cases and situations you didnโ€™t plan for. Letโ€™s dig in! tl;dr: Lots of โ€œhooksโ€ in the form of CSS variables, cascade layers, web component attributes, and custom events. The challenge Iโ€™ve built, maintained, and worked with numerous design and UI systems at various companies. One of the biggest challenges I see around adoption is that the teams working with them often need to use them in a way that they werenโ€™t designed for.

This. Biden was a bad President. Trump is *orders of magnitude worse*, but that's not the bar I think we should be holding presidents to.

Not ignoring it. Refuting it's accuracy.

Measures of economic performance are typically tied to "things rich people care about" and not things that actually affect the ants doing the work.

Iโ€™m not a โ€œboth parties are the sameโ€ type person.

I am a โ€œvotes for Democrats because the alternative is fashion, but both parties suckโ€ kind of person

I hope youโ€™re not trying to catch me saying the GOP is good. I would never do that.

But they do actually fight for things they their voters seem to care about. Evil things, like demonizing trans kids. Point is, they say theyโ€™ll do a thing, and then they do it.

04.08.2025 13:45 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

This. Our economy was good on paper, using metrics that matter to people who are rich. It was not good for every day people.

04.08.2025 13:08 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The former led to the latter.

Democrats canโ€™t win elections in large part because they lie and do nothing instead of addressing the actual needs of their voters.

Iโ€™m a Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeast superfan. Amazing show!

One of the best lines from it:

โ€œStop it, dad. Youโ€™re embarrassing you.โ€

Love the confidence!

A details/summary component with an arrowhead before the text. It points to the text when closed, and points down when open.

Not for nothing, but why the FUCK would anyone donate to party who's only marketing point every year is "if you don't vote for us fascism will happen," and then we vote for them, and they do nothing to actually STOP fascism, so it happens anyways!?

I'll just keep my money, thanks.

Tabs Enhance a list of anchor links into a tabs pattern with the <kelp-tabs> web component. Usage Wrap a list of anchor links and its associated content in a <kelp-tabs> element. Add the [tabs] attribute ...

Just added a new Tabs web component to Kelp!

Unlike nearly every other tabs web component you'll see in modern design systems, this one is actually functional before JS loads because it uses this cool new trick* called "progressive enhancement" ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

*Not actually new

Mundango Related to my article yesterday on my love of mundane sci-fi, I am absolutely smitten with Mundango, a free daily app from Dave Rupert. In Daveโ€™s own wordsโ€ฆ Mundago is a game about enjoying the small things in life. Each day you get a brand new board of activities you can pursue. Your board is yours. Your friendsโ€™ boards will be different. Tap items to check them off as you complete them.
