Thanks for giving it a go. All the places in it are real places, and most of the historical events mentioned are real events (I may have taken a couple of liberties with them). If you like the fact that it is set in Edinburgh, the one I'm writing at the moment is set during the Fringe.

I wasn't aware of Hiraeth but it seems so. I think the main thing is that it doesn't really translate.

I tried to find the right word but I couldn't. Then I came across Cianalas. It’s a beautiful, weighty Scottish Gaelic word that goes beyond missing a physical home; it expresses a deep longing for a place, a moment, or a sense of belonging that feels lost or distant.

I moved to England 5 years ago for family reasons and I don't regret it. However, I do miss Scotland every single day.

Recently someone who read my book said it was like a love letter to Scotland and said it made them feel sad for me as they thought I was homesick.
