Me: Well I guess I’ll wear my purple eyeliner and brown lipstick … like I do everyday.
Also this dragonfly tattoo is permanent … so I guess I’m ready.
Lol! I was coming on here to say Kassia… but she’s on it!

I love your teachers too, buddy.
Service people of a certain young-ish age demographic often pronounce my name as Coraline. Makes me think the book or movie must have been part of their childhood.

I think they both learned something yesterday. Perhaps a little more than don’t steal your brother’s ball.
when we got home, he kept crying that his older brother (16) had gotten his 🏀 stuck in a rose bush.
Eventually, I mentioned that I didn’t think he was actually crying about the 🏀, that he was still upset about those who yelled mean things.

My youngest son (10) went to a No Kings peaceful assembly with his grandfather in a suburb outside of the city.
The first thing he wanted to tell me about were the few people that drove by yelling in opposition, one who called him stupid.
He kept his cool, but

I know my buddy @mrworthington.bsky.social might tell me something about school board candidates not having a ton of $$ and needing the help they can get.
I think it's easy to respond to overt threats to public education, but we have to stay aware of the covert threats that are silently working.
I've been watching the $ that comes into my local school board race closely for more than a decade.
And I just don't forget.
Someone who lost their November bid for a school board seat said today that I spread rumors that she was affiliated with M0ms for L!ber+y.
While that is wholly untrue, I did tell people that she received $ from this org, which is true.
And on the first Tuesday of summer break, I get to sit with the early career teachers I work with and hear them reflect on their challenges and the way they’ve grown.
Thanks, @hablospanglish.bsky.social, for supporting them with me.

I'm constantly reminded of how the most awesome people can be found working in schools.
Today, on the first Monday of summer break, a bunch of teachers gathered in the library of our school to think through how we can better meet the needs of students.
The work never stops.
My 20th last day of school.
I had gotten good at not crying…
But then @carmelavaldez.bsky.social decided she’s gotta go do big things.

This is Emil.
He loves caring for goats with his 4-H after school urban farm program.
But 4-H ended abruptly today. They were about to go camping on Friday.
No more Americorps members.
The kids cried.
This is not ok.
We are devastated.
