I think reporting has changed since the 2020 conflicts based on the release of new technology upgrades such as AI. I do think it has made a good impact because platforms such as Chat-GPT encourage journalists to attempt to establish more credibility and build trust with their audiences. #UWJ201 #301

I think we don't see these 4 methods put to use because many companies don't know how to build trust with their audiences. Journalists often display their information without evidence or defining a way to have the audience trust them, so if they used these methods it would be helpful. #UWJ201 #301

This week’s readings covered media trust, election coverage, consumer attitudes, PR strategies, and online attention. Specifically focusing on the 4 steps to build trust with news audiences, why is it hard to build trust in a polarized society? How does the media build trust with you? #UWJ201 #301

I think the use of misinformation can impact someone because if one person sees something and believes it, this could lead to many other people also seeing it and believing the same thing. This can make the public confused on what information is actually correct. #UWJ201 #301

I don’t think it depends on political ideologies to be susceptible to fact checking; I think it is the persons mindset and if they are willing to take the further step to make sure the information they are seeing is correct. #UWJ201 #301

In the readings for this week we learned about misinformation and how one person saying something incorrect can lead to a rabbit hole of people continuing to make up information, even if there is no evidence. What’s the best way to ensure the information we are receiving is correct? #UWJ201 #301

I also thought this reading was interesting, I found it intriguing that instead of media covering the Biden campaign, they were the Biden campaign. I notice that media is searching for the next big thing to write about because it’s what gives them their jobs and something to write on. #UWJ201 #301

It’s impossible for journalists to write in a non biased way because most of them have a specific POV, and it is hard to avoid that while they write. I think it should be a combination of journalists trying to neutralize what they write as much as they can and us working on judgement. #UWJ201 #301

In this weeks reading about how to tell if the news is biased, we learned about the hostile media effect and that it suggests we are not as smart as we think we are. It was interesting to read about how we detect bias. What factors do you think are most important in detecting bias? #UWJ201 #301

I agree with your view on this reading. I think it is important to recognize our values and live life positively because we never know when it’s going to end. I agree with what Aristotle says about character virtues creating the highest good. #UWJ201 #301

I am in the middle for this question. I think that since these platforms are from the same company, there could potentially be unnoticed bias. However, since these are different platforms there is still a possibility of different information on each one, even if the company is the same. #UWJ201 #301

In this weeks reading about the β€œgood life,” we learned about how different philosophers viewed this lifestyle. The end of the reading emphasizes 5 ways to live the good life. What is an example of how someone can set valued goals and apply it to their life to attain the good life? #UWJ201 #301

It is important to teach people at a young age, depending on when a child gets technology, about cybersecurity. As soon as someone is exposed to the media there are many risks that they should be aware of. I have experienced scams and if I knew more about them, I could have avoided it. #UWJ201 #301

I think the reason for this is that people who have a higher education likely tend to be more educated about the media in general and more aware of the digital world. People with less education tend to know less about the media, likely by choice. #UWJ201 #301

In the reading I read about data profiles and how companies are using our information to create a personalized profile for us. This leads us to get ads that we are likely more interested in. How much control are individuals willing to give up in exchange for security or convenience? #UWJ201 #301

I think that law enforcement in this case may be the most efficient way to gather data since they are the ones observing. However, this does mean there could be potential bias. It is important to have a combination of sources to understand what’s really happening. #UWJ201 #301

I didn’t really notice that the media did this until we talked about it in class, but now I do realize that it tends to cover the more violent parts. I think this is a role in framing and can also play into the mean world syndrome by making everything seem negative. #UWJ201 #301

The reading β€œwhat is mean world syndrome” discusses how the news we see affects our view of the world, seeing it as more dangerous than it actually is. With news today (protests, political conflicts, etc), what can we do to avoid mean world syndrome? #UWJ201 #301

I feel like a lot of news has changed since 2006. I think reporters’ motivations have heavily changed to more sensitive topics as conflicts in the world are becoming more prevalent. With new technology, there are more news sources which can get the point across to more people.

I think this does change motivations based on diction of news reporters and also the delivery. If a reporter sounds more passionate about something, someone is more likely to believe it or be encouraged by it. The transition to online news changed by adding video and voice to add more emphasis.
