If you visit Finland, don't worry if you see young folks wearing military clothing in public transport, they're our conscripts.

A Finnish government study, to be published in May, will outline a plan to “build” a “Verdant Wall” along #Finland’s Eastern border by #rewilding and restoring natural habitats, especially marshlands, as barriers to invasion. Win win win!

The whole 🇸🇪 campaign is “equality makes us more dangerous for our adversaries.”
Russia uses anti-equality rhetoric to divide NATO Allies, so it’s even more important to defend our values. Not just morally, but to create the strongest defence force possible.
One of Sweden’s most dangerous weapons.
An equal defence, is a stronger defence.

Therefore, conscription has been made equal from this year, so that we can train even more capable soldiers.

In Sweden, even royals contribute to NATO's collective defence.
Crown Princess Victoria, an officer in the Armed Forces, visited Sweden's 71st batallion under the command of NATO's multinational brigade in Latvia.
She recieved a briefing on LNLV's responsibilites and participated in an exercise.

Nordic nuclear weapons politics rapidly changing:
Finland proposes legal changes to allow for transport of nuclear weapons if "coupled to military defense."
In Sweden, 5/8 political parties are open for the placement of nuclear weapons during wartime; peacetime placement is still ruled out.

Traditionally St. Lucia Buns, but saffron has experienced mission creep, and is now put into basically any baked good in December.
If you can bake it, there is a saffron version of it.

Anyone who has lived in Sweden knows how incredibly important seasonal baked goods are.

But saffron is still expensive enough that you have to ask for it at the cash register, and the cashier unlocks small bags from behind the register.
So the price of holiday baked goods may skyrocket in Sweden this year.
No small matter for a country that runs on equal parts fika and oil.
And while saffron is one of the world’s most expensive spices, in Sweden it is substantially cheaper.
Why?
Swedes predictably buy massive amounts of saffron, once per year (December).
Supermarkets can therefore import far in advance, in bulk, at a set low prices. Simple supply and demand.
While the world is concerned about rising oil prices, Sweden is concerned about saffron prices.
Iran accounts for ~90% of the world’s saffron exports, which have now been halted.
Saffron is incredibly popular in Swedish holiday baked goods, as well as fish soup.
New polling shows, the most trusted institutions in Sweden are:
- Police (75%)
- Alcohol Monopoly (Systembolaget 73%)
- Armed Forces (69%)
Trust in NATO dropped by 10% to 47%.
The Royal Family (Kungahuset 53%) is the most trusted political institution.

"While global attention remains fixed on the war in the Middle East, NATO continues to closely monitor Russia’s military activity in the High North."
Three Allied flights circled over northern Lapland monitoring the deployment of a Russian ballistic missile submarine going on patrol.
News that American soldiers were told the war in Iran was "part of God's plan" has now reached credible sources in the Swedish media environment.

Grew up with this Children's Haggadah, and still use it to this day:
"Imagine a world without freedom...In our torah, one of the most important ideas is freedom. Freedom means different things to different people...A person who is free may say 'yes' even if everyone else is saying 'no.'"
The French singing La Marseillaise in a nuclear submarine base is deeply symbolic.
France built its own independent nuclear deterrent after WWII to never again have to suffer a similar humiliation. Now France is offering to ”advance” that deterrent to other European countries.
It is once again time for this joke:
Tired: extended deterrence
Wired: dissuasion élargie

France is hitting on Sweden for real: it wants to buy up to 4 Saab GlobalEye planes, hoping that Sweden will choose Naval Group‘s FDIs for its new frigate in exchange.
