Want to know how endoplasmic reticulum (ER) spatial structure affects calcium signaling in astrocytes? Check our new paper now online in Glia. The placement of IP3 receptors is crucial to determine whether ER close to the membrane amplifies calcium signals. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

Chart showing evolution of BK single channel conductance.

Exciting new preprint on the unexplained evolution of the BK calcium-activated potassium channel. High single channel conductance (see picture) in vertebrates lowers calcium buffering effect of the BK channels, leading to more effective and precise activation. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Vesicle cycle model reveals inner workings of brain synapse Advanced modeling system sheds new light on the synaptic vesicle cycle, essential in human brain function.

How do we think, feel, remember, or move? 🧠 Collaborating with @unigoettingen.bsky.social , @deschutteroist.bsky.social models the vesicle cycle, a driving force behind neurotransmission, to reveal more about how our brains work.

A vector calculus for neural computation in the cerebellum Null space theory predicts that neurons generate spikes not only to produce behavior but also to prevent the undesirable effect of other neurons on behavior. In this work, we show that this competitiv...

Really like the www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... paper. Don’t like its title much as I don’t believe that evolution cares about vector calculus, but the Null Space concept is important. It relates to resting state activity and just shows how decades of measuring stimulus-evoked activity misled us.

Purkinje cell branch morphology determines effect of inhibition and SK2 modulation on somatic pauses Characterized by a highly complex branching of their dendrites, Purkinje cells (PCs) have a unique architecture that enables them to receive impressive amounts of sensorimotor information through thei...

New preprint β€œPurkinje cell branch morphology determines effect of inhibition and SK2 modulation on somatic pauses” Both SK2 and stellate cell inhibition promote somatic pauses, but inhibition can suppress dendritic Ca2+ spikes and their associated pause. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
