First cake of 2025, Black Forest Cake!

As well as trying to learn how to draw, I'm also trying to improve my baking skills. This was my second time actually trying to make a black forest cake, and it turned out much better than my prior attempt (the cream somehow went green last time-)

My deer fursona, Thicket, looking up with a sad expression. This is a reference to a scene from one of the Onepiece movies where the character Chopper is seen crying in the same pose, which has since become a popular pose for people to draw their own characters in.

I haven't watched enough of Onepiece to actually see Chopper in the show, but I kinda felt like I had to get this lol

Yeah, maybe I was expecting too much of myself considering its been so long since i last actually tried to draw. Maybe a break every other day would work

I was kinda hoping I would at least get to day 7 of my challenge, but after only 5 days, I just haven't drawn anything else.

I still want to do days 6 to 30 because I was definitely improving, I just have no motivation to keep going.

Does anyone have any tips for staying motivated and consistent?

Day 5 of 30

Really wasn't feeling very motivated today, so it took a lot of effort to draw anything at all.

The proportions are still a bit off but this is my best head so far

The same exercise as day 3, but with a better result. I drew some arrows to point at the parts i need to improve as a way to remind myself to focus on them.

I found a tutorial that shows me where to properly lay out everything. Hopefully, this will help next time. I've discovered that I really can't draw lips.

Day 4 of 30

Practice heads again, and I've definitely improved.
the sketch book i have isn't that big, so i started off drawing everything really small, but now that I'm drawing everything nice and big, i can see where i need to improve the most.

Once again, practising how to draw heads. I really struggle at getting everything laid out in the correct spots, but I definitely think I have improved.

This time, I copied a new artists style to try and work out where everything goes on the face. I think I've just about nailed down the front facing version, but I'm still lagging behind on the side profile.

Day 3 of 30

I'll be honest, I got rrally busy and didn't actually get a chance to draw yesterday, but to make up for it, I plan to do days 3 and 4 today!

Well my current method of practice is 20 minuets without a guide, then 20 with refrenece, then 20 following a tutorial.
No idea if its good afvice or bad advice but its what I'm trying haha

Watching this video is actually what inspired me to do the same thing haha, best of luck to you!

Day 2 of 30

I decided to try and draw faces today, but I'm really not happy with any of them. I think i need to use a bigger sketch book because I keep drawing everything very small.

I'll be practising heads and faces for the next few days.

For the first 20 minutes of my practice session, I drew eyes from memory with no refrenece guides. I put a little tick next to all the eyes I was actually happy with.

For the next 20 minutes of my session, I found a bunch of different images in various styles and copied them all down, once again putting a tick next to the eyes I was happy with.

For the final 20 minutes of my session, I watched a youtube tutorial on how to draw eyes and followed as closely as I could. The guide showed both realistic and stylised eyes, as well as how to draw them in different perspectives.

I want to become a good artist one day, but to be able to improve, I need to practice. I really struggle to practice consistently, so I am going to force myself to draw every day for 30 days.
