Deals are generally reached between two parties who each want something. When one of the parties' desire is "to not be arbitrarily punished by the power of the state" that is not a deal, that is extortion.

On Friday, Ms. Maxwell was moved to a lower-security facility. That fueled speculation that Mr. Trump might commute her sentence or even pardon her in return for her cooperation.
Here's how NYT explained that TRUMP'S FUCKING DEFENSE ATTORNEY went to meet the sex trafficker who "stole" his spa girls, turning one into a sex slave.
No mention of his name, no mention of his role as defense attorney, no mention that sex traffickers don't go to prison camps.

Spending on constructing datacenters and manufacturing facilities for computers & electronic products in the US now exceeds the entire retail and wholesale industry and almost as much as the rest of the office and manufacturing sectors combined.
This is so important. The focus on job numbers ignores the fact that the BLS computes inflation (the CPI) which is directly linked to many government and non-government benefits. Any attempt at politicizing inflation numbers is very, very, very bad…

In Parable of the Sower, the protagonist gets on a prepper evangelism kick of her own, and her dad gives her a lecture.
He explains that she is gonna freak everyone out and needs to slow her roll.
Not because she's wrong...
Parable of the Sower really messed with me, but one of the ways it MOST messed with me (in a good way) was its insistence on the inevitability and persistence of change.

Whenever I see any framing that is like “This used to be America, what happened?” I think about how I was in my thirties before I learned George Washington’s “wooden teeth” were actually dentures made of gold, ivory, and teeth forcibly pried from the mouths of his slaves. That’s the FIRST GUY.
