Instead of trying to green cars so much why don't we just invest in trains. city trains. under ground trains. above ground trains. trains between cities. trains between countries. TRAINS

THE PEOPLE CRAVE TRAINS

In case 2025 wasn't scary enough, it was a great year for horror, too From the supernatural to the slightly-too-realistic, it's been a banner year for scary movies, many of which are available to stream from home this Halloween.

Sam watching helplessly as Frodo starts to identify with Gollum, a weird, transparently insane bald freak in a diaper who eats live birds and mutters about murdering Sam and Frodo all the time, was a mood without a strong modern parallel until people started falling for AI.

I have been charged in a federal indictment sought by the Department of Justice.

This political prosecution is an attack on all of our First Amendment rights. I’m not backing down, and we’re going to win.

You know when Terry Pratchett said 'It doesn't stop being magic just because you know how it works'? Yeah, he meant this.

Designer: all right Mr. Del Toro here’s those Frankenstein’s monster designs, real sexy just like you asked for.
Del Toro: (nodding) this is exactly as sexy as I asked for.

saw GTD's Frankenstein in the theater & had a grand time. despite several plot changes, I think it ultimately remains true to the spirit. great performances, visually incredible, & gloriously gross in classic Del Toro form. I have one gripe about the ending but won't spoil it. 9/10 for me

‘It’s insanely sinister’: horror writers on the scariest stories they’ve ever read Bloodthirsty ghosts, sadistic supercomputers, creepy childhood games ... Mariana Enríquez, Paul Tremblay, Daisy Johnson and others on the tales that kept them up at night

A whole bunch of horror-y folks recommend the scariest stories they’ve ever read. I wrote about @lairdbarron.bsky.social ‘s “Tiptoe.”

Just saw this great post again and it reminded me of my old beef against "spoilers don't matter, a good film isn't spoilable": The timing with which information is revealed is important in every movie! It's as much a part of the art as dialogue or lighting,it matters at least as much as aspect ratio

NYC Mayoral Debate

MAMDANI: I want to make NYC a better place to live

CUOMO: I want Mandala over here to admit he can't do anything, because I can't do anything

SLIWA: I would drink a $27 Moscow mule from Andrew Cuomo's skull

AI is getting better but that uncanny valley still isn't gone. that ain't Christopher Lee, that's a skinwalker. plus they're just crouching on the floor at That Age, wearing the same weird all-black clothes, & the controllers are plugged directly into the tv, so it's still not THAT hard to spot

I also learned this against my will 2 weeks ago, at an outdoor table of a breakfast diner with my husband who basically majored in bug facts. I had french toast. he very much enjoyed watching me flail while getting to talk about male wasps going sugar-Terminator mode in the fall

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

ah yes. conversely, full-length novels cannot take place over a short time period, and must span at least 3 days.

so Amnesia: The Dark Descent was/is gold standard for games that can scare you so good with just bad vibes that you'd literally rather not play than Mess With That. I've seen mixed reviews of Silent Hill F so far, but any game that captures that good ol' 2010 Amnesia feeling is a winner to me
