When I picked up vol 1 I was floored by how Chibas art was way better than I was even expecting

Tetsuya Chiba’s art! The flow of the action, the impacts, the sfx lettering, and the expressions have that kinetic oomph you need for selling meaningful fights indistinguishable from a modern boom. But it’s married to the more exaggerated body language + simpler character design ethos of the era.

Movie 6: CURSE OF THE DOG GOD (1977)

Bit of a slow burn but some great payoff at the end. I’m not sure what to take away from the ending, but I like it.

Didn’t successfully cram a week’s worth of work in a day. Tapping out now.

This is the way I felt about it when I learned about it around 2003. I think it’s not ubiquitous enough in USA to be a part of everyone’s childhoods, but choice kids with funky parents got exposed to it, and it’s so good that even without childhood nostalgia it can become a favorite for others.
