A few people have asked about my camellia regime. I water throughout the year with a last good soak Sept/ Oct. Also give an ericaceous feed once a year. If yellow leaves or blossom drop problems, I make up a sulphur mix in a watering can & completely drench the foliage & soil. 🌱 #GardensHour

I had a busy week in the garden. I made a dead hedge, pricked out some wallflower, allysum and gypsophilla seedlings and sowed tomatoes, Centauria and verbena bonariensis. #GardensHour

That's a perennial problem for me too, the foliage is lovely though even if it doesn't flower (mine hasn't yet).

Yeah it’s been very foggy and slightly cooler the last couple of days, but I don’t think we are getting the cold spell some parts are. Sun due out again this week, so I’ll keep my eyes peeled! Just had a moth try to make my house its home for the night - though not sure that counts 🀣 #GardensHour

That was Wednesday last week, weather turning again now though so hopefully it'll find somewhere to hunker down

It's a miracle - the slimey plant assassins of the night have left the Chionodoxa flowers alone this spring #GardensHour 🌱

Barrel pond

I returned my plants to my barrel pond today after over wintering them in a greenhouse, hoping they'll get going a bit quicker than normal this way, I have some water forget-me-nots, an iris, some miniature reed mace, some spiral juncus and a miniature water lilly πŸ˜€

One word to describe my garden this week? Maybe β€œpurple” is a good one? Hellebores and crocus are still going strong and I forgot to take a picture of my hyacinths but they’re coming out too #GardensHour 🌱

Two determined pot plants for #gardenshour this week: chive that was given to me by my neighbour (and had a dead blue tit half rotten in the tangle of leaves!) and the Moroccan daisy that didn't go to sleep this winter.

Hope you're all enjoying the start of the season πŸ›

I cut all this heather back quite savagely in late summer last year, wasn't sure if I'd maybe gone too far but it seems to have been the right thing to do. 🌱

Eight years ago I nearly removed this camellia as it was in a sorry state (inherited when I moved in) Yellow leaves & a few blooms which dropped almost immediately. Tlc of sulphur washes & late September waterings & look at it now! #GardensHour 🌱

β€ͺEvening #GardensHour it’s still pretty damp outside so I haven’t done much out there, but the inside seed sowing continues; this week, these β€˜Red Midget’ (Ratibida columnifera). Haven’t grown them before but I thought they looked fun!‬

But I’ve planted out some cowslip and foxglove plugs, done a touch of rockery repair, and got my first lot of seeds in the propagator. It’s all coming along - really want to get stuck in to the weeding, but the mornings are still too cold. #GardensHour

After such a gloomy winter, it did me so much good to see these gorgeous crocuses come up! For some reason, crocuses in these beautiful colours really resonate with me, as familiar from my early childhood. Just love them!πŸ’›πŸ’œπŸ€
