Roughly $130 billion dollars a month is paid out in social security benefits. Take that out of our economy and it will collapse very quickly. AND people will die.

Great article by Michele Norris. A couple of things: the number is not $120 billion a year in benefits, it's $120+ billion per month! Also, comments by Commerce sec'y suggesting stopping payments to find fraud would very quickly topple our economy!
