A new paper discussing the importance of federal, institutional, and programmatic support for physician scientist trainees. The same can easily apply to biomedical trainees. We as a nation need to support the next generation of doctors and researchers! rdcu.be/etaiE

Not the most important question, but why did @aga-cmgh.bsky.social stop putting lab images on their cover? It seemed like a great and free way to celebrate work, build community, and get free publicity from people sharing their work. Old cover on left, current format on right.

And while I could see doing both. I have a very hard time telling actual stories in a 300 character limit.

I'm posting about the NIH changes and my research on Facebook instead of academic X or here. FB reaches my extended family, conservative friends from home, etc, instead of just scientists who already now. I've reconnected with old friends and had real conversations with R voters. Highly recommend!

Sox9 inhibits Activin A to promote biliary maturation and branching morphogenesis
Nature Communications - The bile ducts of the liver form a network of large ducts and small ductules, though how they are patterned remains unclear. Hrncir et al. show that Sox9 is required for the...
Some good news: @hannahhrncir.bsky.social โs primary PhD paper is finally online! This study lays the groundwork for a lot of technical and conceptual things the lab is currently working on, including light sheet microscopy for imaging entire biliary trees in mouse liver: rdcu.be/d90Br 1/4

Photograph of a warehouse in Kinshasa where unboxed tuberculosis medications are going undistributed due to the stop work order by the Trump Administration.
Just received this photo from a friend of a warehouse in Kinshasa. These are tuberculosis medications--ALREADY PAID FOR--that aren't being distributed due to the Trump Administration's stop work order.
TB treatment is being interrupted in SO many patients around the world. What does that mean? (1/2)

Thank you so much for these updates! I'm still continously refreshing to see whether canceled study sections or advisory council meetings from last week will be rescheduled or if people will be made to resubmit. Here's hoping there's more good news in the coming hours or days! Thanks again!

It looks like study sections and advisory councils should happen moving forward. Any news on those that were canceled in the past two weeks? I'm strongly hoping they're rescheduled soon and we're not just told to resubmit next round!

It's hard to get all my students in the same place, but always worth it when we can! Bribing with dinner always helps :)
I'm so happy to lead this group of amazing undergrads, teaching them stem cell and intestinal research! Here's to a successful rest of the academic year!

The conference room at Baylor College of Medicine filling up with people before my seminar.
A week late, but thank you to @tmcddc.bsky.social for hosting me for a visiting seminar at Baylor Collage of Medicine. It was wonderful to meet the Baylor community and I had a great time with all my meetings and my lunch with the trainees!
I'm a huge fan of your GI community!
