The Healthy Dashboard Principle - Tableau Training Why your dashboard’s real job begins after it delivers its first wins.

Most dashboards fail *after* they succeed.

You build it.

You fix problems.

You deliver value.

Then… nothing.

The business moves on.

The dashboard doesn’t.

And suddenly, it’s answering questions no one’s asking anymore.

Split-frame meme showing two scenes.
Top image: A man at a party shouting into a woman's ear while she looks away disinterested—caption reads: “One stakeholder loudly explaining why the dashboard needs to change.”
Bottom image: The rest of the party quietly enjoying themselves—caption reads: “Everyone else using it just fine.”

This visual highlights how loud feedback can misrepresent the majority experience.

Don’t pivot to the loudest feedback.

You can’t please everyone all of the time. So don’t try.

One noisy stakeholder ≠ everyone.

If 95% of people get it - however quiet they are…

...don’t let the 5% ruin design.

📦 "Sign up to yet another dashboard tool," they said.

"It’ll be intuitive," they said.

Cue existential crisis.

Luckily, Marcelo Has gave me early access to test his Dashboard Template Creator for #Tableau.

Here’s my honest review.

🚫 Don’t say “No” to the Pie Chart.

Instead, try…

“Sounds like you’re trying to show X. Tell me more…”

You’re not in the room. But your dashboard is.

It’s either building your reputation - or wrecking it.

Most dashboards collapse the moment the creator isn’t there to explain them.

Because they weren’t designed to self-steer.

Most people start to improve their dashboards by tweaking the charts.

Wrong focus.

If your users don’t understand how to use the dashboard, they won’t give you USEFUL feedback.

👉 Teach. Don’t tweak.
