there's so much disrespect of romance writers and romance readers baked into the idea that AI-driven production of novels is 'better'. as if writing romance isn't skillful, hard and joyous work. as if romance readers aren't discerning, loyal and savvy.

I would not ever take the output of any software translation as accurate. Even excluding hallucinations (and that's a big exclude), what you're not getting from it is context dependent meanings (like homophones, idioms, slang, etc). Fastest way to accidentally insult someone

And genre romance readers can smell your derision! We are hyper aware of anyone trying to profit off us without wanting to play by genre rules. Why should *we* make room for those authors when they don't want to be seen at our party? so YOU can feel better about liking that HEA?

LitFic authors aren't going to admit that they are writing romance because they act like genre romance is for idiots and for bad readers and it's all garbage mommy porn.

In other words, "Literary romance" doesn't exist because of the snobbery of capital-L literature.

My personal feeling is that if there is a part of my fiction that feels super boring to write, it is probably going to be boring for my reader and I need to step up my game.

It doesn't mean that it's going to be a breeze; often the opposite.

I’m in the middle of final revisions on my latest book. It comes out in April. The MMC is a boxer. Guess what I know absolutely *nothing* about? Boxing. Guess what else? I have not used AI once in *any* aspect of writing it. 1/n

This is what gets me. This was not a win in any way. All that happened is that SFWA showed its true colors and then—for appearances—back tracked. Pandora’s box is open. The truth is out. I emailed them asking to be removed from the organization, and this changes nothing for me.

Actually, there is no good reason to use genAI in your writing. Just don’t.
