And it could not be more blatant that Trump and other pro-genocide politicians are using their fake concern for antisemitism as a cover for their anti-Palestinian racism and warmongering.

Trump’s antisemitism is dangerous for Jews. Like all forms of racism, antisemitism is used by those in power to distract and divide. Freedom and safety for any of us relies on freedom and safety for us all.

Trump and his supporters continually position themselves as the authority on antisemitism, while openly embracing antisemites, and continually wielding the threat of anti-Jewish violence to shield the Israeli government from any accountability and silence people speaking out for Palestinian freedom.

As the Israeli military massacres hundreds of Palestinians each day in Gaza, it could not be more clear that the only concern Trump and Netanyahu have for Jews is how effectively they can use us to promote genocide.

This past weekend, Donald Trump broadcast an 800 year-old slur for Jews. Then he met with war criminal and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.

I think this is a terrifying descent into authoritarianism, with profound consequences for protest across the board and democractic engagement generally. I wish I could say I was shocked a Labour Government is doing it.

You may think that people shouldn't damage property - even in support of a legitimate cause. But the law has a whole variety of tools - including the criminal and civil law - to discourage that conduct and punish its perpetrators.

What proscribing it does is criminalise support for is methods.

Those of us who believe what is happening in Palestine is genocide - and that it is wrong for the UK to support it - are struggling to make our case in the face of a media (and Government) that are extremely hostile to its legitimacy.

And protest is the only way for us to be heard.

If proscribed it would be an offence to "belong" - or claim to belong - to Palestine Action.

Or to "support" it - an expression broadly drawn and which seems to extend to saying you think Palestine Action's protests against the genocide are legitimate in a way which could persuade others.

In order to form a view about whether Yvette Cooper's decision to proscribe Palestine Action is legitimate in a healthy democracy you need to understand what the effects will be of her decision.

Those effects are pretty terrifying.

Palestine Action won't actually be proscribed until both the House of Commons and House of Lords have approved Yvette Cooper's decision.

So it isn't yet proscribed.
