Imagine trying to stuff a huge couch into a tiny studio apartment. That's what engineers are up against when making tiny computer chips for your phone. But nearly 20 years ago, a team led by our own Peidong Yang came up with a way to build the tiny on-off switches that make up those chips.

The National Science Foundation has renewed funding for the NSF Center for Genetically Encoded Materials (C-GEM).
