15.12.2024 15:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0But I am wholly an EH/SP (extreme horror/splatterpunk) gal and whenever I try and read less provoking books, I feel like I need to immediately go back and read something gory.
So what was the point of this? Nothing. I just wanted to share my journey as a reader. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk
Fast forward to 2022, I got back into reading by falling into Elias Witherow's duology The Black Farm and Return to the Black Farm. This was a whole new genre to me despite reading Palahniuk, and it reeled me in, hook, line, and sinker. Now, I read some other stuff like thrillers and mysteries
09.12.2024 21:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So from ages 9-18, I have read Gaiman, Palahniuk, Sheldon, Preston, Child, Grisham, and a ton of classics such as Othello. Don Quixote, and some Shakespeare. Then I had an almost 7 year reading slump because of a controlling relationship, and I was hollow and empty.
09.12.2024 21:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0When I got to college, I was introduced to an entirely new spectrum: classics. I admit that the classics didn't catch my interest as much as modern stories did, and by this time I was fully immersed in the Pendergast series by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. I was also a huge Chuck Palahniuk fan.
09.12.2024 21:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0From ages 9-13, I was reading everything I could get my hands on. I was a seasoned reader at this point, having read Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and A Song of Ice and Fire, along with Twilight and a bunch of other stuff like Uglies, Divergent, The Hunger Games, and so much more.
09.12.2024 21:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Stumbled onto Stephen King, and at this point I was also reading a ton of Babysitters Club and Sweet Valley. Then I discovered Chuck Palahniuk when I was 9 years old. Forgot to mention that I had been consuming comics that weren't for children, such as the Sandman Chronicles by Neil Gaiman.
09.12.2024 21:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Also read a ton of children's books by Zilpha Keatley Snyder, Lynne Reid Banks, R.L. Stine, and Beverly Cleary. My next adult novel was The Client by John Grisham at age 6, and that was when I fell in love with true crime. It also helped that my father was into CSI and similar shows.
09.12.2024 21:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I consumed whatever I could reach on the bookshelf at the time, and I guess because of its heftiness, it intrigued me. I didn't understand a lot of the words then so calm down lmao. In between that and age 6, I consumed a lot of the fairytales that were prescribed for children.
09.12.2024 21:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Story time!
So I started reading when I was 3 years old. First book was a full ass novel titled A Woman Of Substance by Barbara Taylor-Bradford. Now you might frown upon my parents letting me read that, but in their defense, they were working fulltime jobs to support me.
I haven't been reading. Ugh.
