I stopped watching TV because of excessive commercial breaks. So I definitely sympathize.

I didn't know creators had any sort of control over it. I just assumed YouTube just did whatever they wanted.

That's a pretty unfortunate YouTube problem. I browse with an ad blocker so I never have to see them. I never knew it was that bad.
