We donβt talk enough about the overwhelming number of individuals who develop disabilities after giving birth.
Nearly 20%. Millions every year.
Letβs start talking about it. π
The Magic School Bus show featured a wheelchair user named Mikey, who was a computer whiz and the younger brother of main character Carlos.

Being disabled does not excuse being racist.
Being disabled does not excuse being ableist.
Being disabled is not a free pass to engage in behaviors that are harmful to others.
To celebrate #NationalTellAFairyTaleDay, we've reimagined Croc's origin story as an illustrated fairy tale! π Read along to learn how Croc grows to become the hero who saves the Gobbos from the evil Baron Dante. You might even spot some easter eggs hidden within the pages! π

It builds stairs instead of ramps. It shames us for requesting the same access as our peers, calling this equality βspecial treatment.β It creates boundaries instead of freedoms. And ultimately, it attempts to make us the βothers,β the outsiders. That being said, donβt shy away from getting out there and living your life to the fullest and, in doing so, challenging these archaic and ableist standards. Break down those barriers, and build an elevator instead. And remember, you belong.β

Examples of the accessible housing crisis in the US:
30 new homes being built in a development. All with stairs and two floors.
55+ communities being the only homes built with accessibility features. Strictly age-restricted.
100+ unit apartments being built with only 1 or 2 accessible units.

Disability doesnβt care how much money you make.
Disability doesnβt care what you believe.
Disability doesnβt care who you voted for.
Disability doesnβt care how old you are.
Disability doesnβt care about your healthy lifestyle.
Disability can happen to anyone at any time, and no one is immune.
Disabled people should not have to be resilient all the time.
Forced resilience is exhausting, and, while many of us have learned to function this way, we shouldnβt have to.
The PBS Kids show Dragon Tales featured a wheelchair using dragon named Lorca who was born without wings and was unable to walk.

UNDERemployment is just as problematic in the disabled community as unemployment.
People with disabilities are much more likely than their non-disabled peers to be forced to take jobs well below their education or skill level and to not be able to work full-time due to benefit restrictions.
The fact that programs and services that allow disabled people to function and participate in society are often the first things to be cut from budgets is not a coincidence.
