My de-rusted #FM7 is not yet trusted. It intermittently does not boot to BASIC, but into a blinking cursor in top left corner. I guess it is trying to boot from a disk somehow even though there is no disk controller installed. Could it be a bad DIP switch?

Some #FM7 progress. The keyboard is nicely restored and the main board is clean as new, drying out after today's bath in window cleaner and distilled water. #FromRustedToTrusted

Working on my rusted #FM7. I was getting ready to desolder the switches so that the rusted keyboard plate could be fixed but it turned out that the PCB with the switches can be unscrewed and the key/switch tops can be pushed through using a flat screw driver and a finger.

Improved my completion of Zanac Ex from 2024 to a 1CC today. #MSX

As a bonus, I completed it again in MAME somewhere above the Bering Sea on my flight back to Europe two days later.

On September 2, four people completed the first loop of R-Type in HEY: certain Ryusuke (not sure about the second loop, but it must have been at least fairy close), two anonymous players and.... drumroll... yours truly.

Filming and taking pictures inside is restricted, so here's a photo of the entrance taken during my last evening in Japan. Did I succeed in my quest to complete R-Type in Akihabar though, you ask?

Okay, I found R-Type in Hirose, not sure how I missed it the first time. Played a couple of games yesterday, the first one was almost a success. Will try to play some more tonight.

Akihabara Station at sun down. Checking out local arcades and restaurants. So far found plenty of candy cabs with Gradius and Salamander, but no R-Type yet. Also found MSX Aleste in a shop, but the price was pretty much terrible, so the search still goes on.

Completed the arcade version of R-Type in MAME using a d-pad on single life. I then continued to play the second loop and died in level 11. #1-ALL

I am going, it will be my first MSX event.

Today I played through the entire arcade R-Type on MAME. Not saying I completed it because I was using save-states, but I am still pretty pumped up about it. I have a saved state for the beginning of each level with the ship equipped as it would be without dying. Means I can practice levels at will.

Completed Aleste 2 on one credit today. The key is to collect plenty of lives before Area 8 and the rest is basically inertia. #MSX

Finally completed Parodius on #MSX today. Visited the final boss eight or nine times before eventually beating him. Getting to him from the last checkpoint is a real ordeal.

Just finished watching it. It's a great video, don't let YT analytics make you think the opposite.

There is no denying this is strongly inspired by Galaga. But I'd say it's more of a tribute than a port. What struck me is how polished this C64 game is.

Any of you #SHARP X1 people have a schematic for the CZ-850D monitor? Judging from the smell, something cooked inside when it made the wet "pop" sound. There was no white smoke though. My guess is it was some a non-essential capacitor as the monitor was still working before I shut it down.

In the communist Czechoslovakia the government also "supported" micros for schools (to some limited extent) :-)

Today I was just one flip of a switch away from frying a SHARP MZ-1500 by plugging it to 220V. This happened as I was previously playing with European versions of MZ-800 and MZ-700 and then casually swapping the Japanese MZ-1500 in. Glad that I stopped myself today. I must be more careful next time.

I had a cold solder joint on my VDP which was giving me intermittent errors and graphical glitches. Maybe worth checking.

Wondering if it makes better sense for the Czech Republic to reconsider the purchase of F-35 in favor of something produced locally in Europe, such as the latest Gripen, Eurofighter or Rafale. Something that the US does not benefit from and cannot switch off.

I finished this one with a dozen or two of continues. It was my second completed MSX game and first completed MSX shooter. I hope I will be able to own a physical copy of the game one day :-)
