Media Matters analyzed a year of NYT coverage of anti-trans bills and found that 66% of the time the paper didn't quote a trans person. Further, it found that the paper often quoted right wing sources without mentioning their histories of anti-trans rhetoric.
So "right-wing rag" is pretty accurate.

According to payment processors, purchasing fictional sexy art is grossly immoral.

Betting on school children getting blown up is fine though.

The US and Israel are bombing Iran. Anyone reporting it as β€œpreventive” is engaging in propaganda, by definition. There is no interpretation of what’s happening as anything else than a crime.

You don’t have to like the Iranian regime to understand why this is bad.

We lost Leonard Nimoy on this date eleven years ago. How can it be eleven years already. It still hurts like it was yesterday. I will raise a glass in his honour tonight. Rest in peace. See you all tomorrow night, friends. πŸ–– #TOSSatNight

Feed algorithms are widely suspected to influence political attitudes. However, previous evidence from switching off the algorithm on Meta platforms found no political effects'. Here we present results from a 2023 field experiment on Elon Musk's platform X shedding light on this puzzle. We assigned active US-based users randomly to either an algorithmic or a chronological feed for 7 weeks, measuring political attitudes and online behaviour. Switching from a chronological to an algorithmic feed increased engagement and shifted political opinion towards more conservative positions, particularly regarding policy priorities, perceptions of criminal investigations into Donald Trump and views on the war in Ukraine. In contrast, switching from the algorithmic to the chronological feed had no comparable effects.
Neither switching the algorithm on nor switching it off significantly affected affective polarization or self-reported partisanship. To investigate the mechanism, we analysed users' feed content and behaviour. We found that the algorithm promotes conservative content and demotes posts by traditional media. Exposure to algorithmic content leads users to follow conservative political activist accounts, which they continue to follow even after switching off the algorithm, helping explain the asymmetry in effects. These results suggest that initial exposure to X's algorithm has persistent effects on users' current political attitudes and account-following behaviour, even in the absence of a detectable effect on partisanship.

A new paper shows that less than 2 months of exposure to Twitter’s algorithmic feed significantly shifts people’s political views to the right.

Moving from chronological feed to the algorithmic feed also increases engagement.

This is one of the most concerning papers I’ve read in awhile.

A very intricate watercolor Islamic tile painting, with vibrant turquoise and gold plant motifs, surrounded by multi-toned deep sea blues and cool and warm purples. It forms a circular, star-like shape, and is surrounded by a white and gold border that blends with the geometric white designs moving throughout the entire painting.

Laser weapon that shut down El Paso's skies was LOCUST system What we know about the bizarre events leading up to the airspace closure.

Everything is so fucked up that the story of airspace over El Paso shutting down for 10 days to fight an clearly fabricated cartel drone invasion, before being recanted hours later, was basically a non-story. Will "Border Patrol haphazardly fired military weapons into the sky" make more of a splash?

There IS NOT EVEN the usual obscuring fog of money changing hands multiple times and eventually ending up in bad hands.

JKR openly just uses HP money to fund anti-trans shit.

it's not new or surprising to anyone with a functioning brain, but the dissonance of watching the entire internet get dismantled in the name of "children's safety" while every day everyone is hearing about how no one in the rich elite pedophile cabal suffers any consequences is a bit maddening

A number of abolitionists have worked for years to successfully close a number of jails and prisons in the US. Too bad *reformers* have nothing to learn from them especially in this moment.

I cannot sufficiently underline how despicable it is that the IOC has required Haitian Olympic athletes to remove an image representing the leader of the Haitian Revolution (against SLAVERY) from their uniforms.
