28.02.2026 19:44 β π 145 π 10 π¬ 1 π 0Called the Opalescent Nudibranch, Hermassenda crassicornis is the species. It's an aggressive sea slug that will feed on tunicates & almost everything else from dead animals to jellyfish, anthozoans, crustaceans, and other Opalescent nudibranchs. Stinging cells from prey are moved to the gills.

One eye is visible but the Ampullae of Lorenzini, sweeping arc of light dots on the rt side, really stand out. They're specialized sensory pits that detect weak electric fields of prey & motion.

The spots show up when the octopus decides it isn't working then jets away. When camouflage doesn't work they seem to get angry but it could be my bias. If octopus lived long enough they could rule the seas.

In Chinese #folklore, foxes aren't just cunning. Theyβre alchemists of the night. By swishing their tails, they spark ghostly fires in the dark. When yearning to become spirits, they crown themselves with a human skull and bow to the Big Dipper. If the skull stays, their transformation succeeds. 1/2

As corn earworms develop resistance to corn engineered to be toxic to them, a new study shows adult moths that survive have wings that are longer and stiffer, which favors long-distance migrationβpotentially helping the pests spread resistance faster and undermining a key crop-protection strategy.
