I spoke in the chamber today to ask if the government would recognise the incredible work done by community organisations and businesses, such as the brilliant Transforming Choice in my constituency and Penny Lane Builders

I will do everything I can to ensure the 50,000+ working and volunteering for these services have the tools they need to build a country free from homelessness

It was great to speak at the Homeless Link reception this week.

Homelessness support and prevention services do so much for some of the most vulnerable people in our community and our country.

My team hasn't ignored concerns. The responsibility lies with the council of which I am not part of & have no responsibility for.

The letter was not shared with my office.

The trauma that comes with homelessness is unimaginable. By not getting a grip of this crisis we are failing an entire generation.

The latest figures show that rough sleeping levels have surged by 171% since 2010, this is not to mention the hundreds of thousands of children and adults stuck in sub-standard, dangerous and insecure temporary accommodation.

26.02.2026 15:54 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

We are in the midst of one of the worst homelessness crises we have ever seen. So, whilst the recent homelessness strategy was welcome, it is clear there can be no more delay in action.

26.02.2026 15:54 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I am absolutely horrified. This is inexcusable and deeply shameful. No child should ever be left to sleep rough, under any circumstances. It is not just disgraceful, itโ€™s illegal. There must be answers as to how this was ever allowed to happen.

Sir Keir Starmer 'concerned' after man with axe arrested at mosque Police said no one was hurt and there was no suggestion of any threats being made following the incident at Manchester Central Mosque on Tuesday night.

So sad to hear of the attack at a mosque in Manchester during the holy month of Ramadan.

There is no place for hatred & division in our society.

Thanks to the emergency services who acted quickly.

I hope the Muslim community in Manchester & beyond can find strength & guidance despite this attack

I welcome the governmentโ€™s commitment in its new plans to tackle the crisis in provision for children and young people with special educational needs and /or disabilities (SEND). We need to wait to see how the changes will work but it is encouraging that the Education Secretary has made it a priority to consult widely and to listen in particular to families and the organisations supporting them.

Thousands of parents currently face a bruising battle to get the support their child needs which often involves a prolonged wait for a diagnosis and an Educational, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) with parents still sometimes forced to give up work to care for their child because they feel the education system is failing them.

Councils and schools are struggling to cope with rising demand and recruit specialist staff, the number of children and young people in Liverpool with EHCPs more than doubled between 2021 and 2025.

I am glad to see therefore that there is ยฃ4 billion in upfront funding to improve provision over the next three years before wider changes are made and that as well as EHCPs being retained for children there will be new individual support plans for all children with SEND so that they get support at an earlier stage.

Nevertheless, these are major reforms and I know that parents will understandably feel concerned about how these plans will affect their children so I will be listening very carefully myself to the views of parents in Liverpool Wavertree on the proposals.

Special educational needs and disabilities can cover many different characteristics and degrees of severity, but behind a diagnosis, important as that is, lies a child who wants the same things as any other child, to make friends, play and learn. They have the same right to an education so that they can thrive and reach their full potential and parents are no longer forced to fight for the support their children need.

After over a decade of cuts, thousands of firefighter jobs lost and services stretched to breaking point we must act now and reinvest in our fire services. The consequences of not doing so are unthinkable.

Today, thanks to the Employment Rights Act, the majority of the 2016 Trade Union Act is repealed!

This means unions can focus on what they do best - organising to win better pay and conditions.

Now letโ€™s finish the job and deliver the New Deal for Working People in full.

Today marks a major step forward for workersโ€™ rights.

Unions can now spend more time fighting for better jobs, better pay, and better conditions - after most of the Toriesโ€™ Trade Union Act is repealed.
