I find it funny how the promotional/press messaging seems to be downplaying Buddie quite heavily, and yet S8 has given us some of the strongest Buddie content to date. Even just them working together on calls, where they don’t have lines together, is being shown so much more than in the past.

I just had this image of Ryan in a future interview after Eddie’s exhibited romantic interest in Buck and he’s like, “Yeah, brothers, man, I have them”

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I hope Buddie eventually DOES talk to each other. I think I’m discovering that words of affirmation are important to me, so seeing them primarily have meaningful moments in complete silence is starting to bother me

Now that they’ve expressly brought up the point of Eddie not denying himself joy, I think we could see him exploring with other men

Oh yeah, did anyone accurately predict that the restaurant would be used again for an anniversary date? Because I feel like I didn’t see one. We were probably under the assumption that they wouldn’t have been together that long to warrant a celebratory dinner at the place where it started (awfully)

I will concede to the idea that this might give it a distinguishing characteristic that sets it apart from other procedural dramas, but it’s not necessarily what I want/need in this particular one

Somewhat related to the episode: I think I’m starting to feel a little fatigued by all of the older film references. It’s quickly becoming a pillar of the show’s genetic makeup that didn’t used to be there (at least, not that I’m aware of), but in a way to doesn’t feel evolutionary. More novelty!

I definitely agree with others that this season seems to be paralleling past traumatic events for Buddie (i.e. the well, the lightning strike), as if to make up for the seasons where Tim wasn’t in charge and Buddie’s progress was stymied by She Who Must Not Be Named

I also don’t think we’ll get canon gay Eddie until near the end of S8. If they rush through all of that substantial plot development for a character that drives half of the interest of the show (alongside Buck), casual viewers may feel the loss of urgency to keep up with the second half

As for where I think things will go from here, I’m starting to lean towards some sort of NDE for Buck after he and Eddie come to blows, with Eddie harbouring guilt for not being there for Buck when he needed him. I don’t think this will kickstart feelings realizations, but it’ll bring them closer

While actually quite profound, I’m a little sad that Josh’s speech was marred for me by the idea that it was encouraging the BT relationship, the very thing we were dreading based on the promotional stills. If it were said to Buck about someone more deserving, I probably would’ve shed a tear

I think Madney’s storyline was actually really beautiful, though a part of me was a little thrown off by the pregnancy reveal because it made me question whether Maddie’s excitement for having a second child was actually genuine or if it was forced by circumstance, but I’ll trust them for now

And WOW did I not expect a full BT breakup, initiated by Temu of all people. Seeing Buck so convinced that what he had with him was what he wanted in perpetuity was definitely a mindfuck because WHAT?! I guess I forget that characters need to learn things in shows, often times the hard way

For Buck: WOW. I did Manza’s poll on Twitter earlier and predicted that Temu would confess to going after Eddie originally, I did not actually think they would connect the Abby through line, but they did. Kudos to Tim, I guess

I’m also of the camp that Eddie mentioning he was straight - which happened right before a conversation where it was accurately assessed that he denies himself joy and was actively wearing a disguise - is intentional setup for the future deconstruction of the Eddie he (and we) once knew

Well that episode was fantastic. The emergencies were kinda meh, and I think they missed out on an opportunity for Eddie to reflect on his relationship with Shannon with all the divorce talk going around, but having him dance around was a great first step for him finding himself

Amen to that. Literally, in Eddie’s case lol

After the hype from the handshake still leading up to the Halloween ep, I told myself I wouldn’t get my expectations up again. Yet here we are lol
