This would free up the editor to "sit across from someone, make eye contact and build trust" and maybe, just maybe understand why prospective employees are leery about having AI replace a core part of their job.

'This mutiny is really more about the primary dance. The dance of all creation. To be clear it is a protest against oppression and suppression, and the only tried & tested true antidote to that is pure, unfiltered, unapologetic, relentless disco-hedonism'

I left The Washington Post last year, but wrote my love letter in the middle of my time there, in 2015.
Everything changed, over my 1st decade there. Then everything changed again, in the decade after this was written. But there were 2 constants: the work & the people. www.mrdanzak.com/blog/10years

What's next? Good question. More to come on that in the new year.
But in broad strokes, I'll be in Northern Wisconsin reporting on any and all manner of things as a freelancer. Please send tips, ideas, or work my way.
I'm incredibly proud of our various Penn State Health investigations, none of which would've been possible without Charlotte Keith.
These are incredibly dark and tumultuous times in journalism, which is why I'm even more grateful to have had these years at Spotlight PA.
I learned so much from editors @sarahrafacz.bsky.social, @mizzousundevil.bsky.social, @kearse.bsky.social and others. And I had the privilege of being part of a fantastic bureau team with Min Xian and @marleyparish.bsky.social.

Today is my final day with Spotlight PA, wrapping up 3.5 years reporting on Penn State University.
We (un)covered major stories β from canceling the Center for Racial Justice to campus closures to problems in the health system.
I'm incredibly thankful to have worked with such a fantastic team.
I spoke with WPSU this week about our investigation of the Penn State Cancer Institute and the importance of journalism in Pennsylvania.

Remember those internal Penn State board documents that we've been waiting more than two years to get?
Well, the wait continues. Penn State has appealed to the Pa. Supreme Court.
BREAKING: The director of the Penn State Cancer Institute resigned Friday following a Spotlight PA investigation into his care of patients and leadership of the center.

Penn Stateβs internal reviews found a top doctorβs alarming errors and disruptive leadership. He remains in charge of the cancer center.

Yet, Penn State's own reviews used words like 'toxic' or 'hostile' to describe the cancer center's work environment.
The reviews questioned why patients experienced delays in scans or to changing their treatment when it was clear the cancer was progressing.
Records we obtained show that Penn State Health leaders (the former CEO and COO) and two medical school deans had extensive knowledge of the issues.
They considered removing him as director or stopping him from seeing patients. But instead, they kept him as director.
A Spotlight PA investigation found the head of the Penn State Cancer Institute was repeatedly under internal review in recent years for extra chemo doses, unexplained delays in changing treatments, and creating a 'toxic' workplace.
