I think today’s modern metal bands like Sleep Token, Spiritbox and Architects owes a great debt to Paradise Lost, who were blending death metal with goth rock and synthpop back in the 90s.

Just listened to DEFTONES’ ‘Private Music’ and FAETOOTH’s ‘Labyrinthine’ back-to-back, and they fit surprisingly well next to eachother. What I’m saying is Deftones fans need to check out this all-female doom metal band!

This might be interesting for extreme metal fans. There are hardly any drums, except on one track, but the vibe is cold and dissonant and this is definitely extreme music, kind of like Lingua Ignota

I reviewed Ethel Cain’s last album yesterday for context, because this album is so different from her last. This is not pop music in any sense. The tracks vary between ambient noise explorations that sound like creepy horror film scores, and slow dirges with ethereal vocals and disturbing lyrics.

Singer/songwriter/producer Ethel Cain broke through with this blend of gothic indie pop/rock and Americana. The songs are excellently crafted pop songs in the vein of Lana Del Rey, St. Vincent and The Cure and the album was a big hit for fans of alt pop.

From the first notes of «Brutal», track 1 on Olivia’s debut album Sour, I was hooked. One of my absolute favorite artists. She brought loud guitars back into pop music after they’d been gone for years, and for that she’s a hero.

The band name is an obvious homage to the Norwegian label Deathlike Silence Productions, which is also evident in the production. Pretty good overall, and worth a listen.
