This year, at least four states β Arkansas, Montana, Utah and Virginia β have amended their child labor laws to mandate trusts and other protections for content creators who are minors.
07.08.2025 16:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0An increasing number of state lawmakers are wondering the same thing.
And now, legislators are pushing to protect child influencers (among other social media legislation).

Most people have accepted that social media influencing can be a legitimate job β for adults. But experts are worried about how this works βfor children who canβt actually make that decision to go into that business themselves...β
07.08.2025 16:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Kidfluencers and other content creators make money by hawking products and services to the people who follow them.
The job has become increasingly lucrative as companies spend more on social media marketing. Some influencers can earn $10,000 or more for a single post.
Parents: Do you know which influencers your children are watching on YouTube? It could be a kidfluencer.
"Kidfluencing" has become an increasingly lucrative business. But there's very little oversight of how these accounts are managedπ§΅
stateline.org/2025/08/07/t...
Child influencers have continued to grow in popularity across nearly every social media platform with little oversight over how theyβre managed. A handful of state lawmakers want to change that.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced today that it will begin an orderly wind-down of its operations following the passage of a federal rescissions package and the release of the Senate Appropriations Committeeβs FY 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-H) appropriations bill, which excludes funding for CPB for the first time in more than five decades. For nearly 60 years, CPB has carried out its Congressional mission to build and sustain a trusted public media system that informs, educates, and serves communities across the country. Through partnerships with local stations and producers, CPB has supported educational content, locally relevant journalism, emergency communications, cultural programming, and essential services for Americans in every community. βDespite the extraordinary efforts of millions of Americans who called, wrote, and petitioned Congress to preserve federal funding for CPB, we now face the difficult reality of closing our operations,β said CPB President and CEO Patricia Harrison. βCPB remains committed to fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities and supporting our partners through this transition with transparency and care.β
