Spot oil prices grab the news, but itโs the impact weโre about to witness to petrochemical and derivative production that should really scare the shit out of folks.
Itโs the sort of shock that could ripple through our global industrial economy for many months.

07.03.2026 18:40 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Poster for trip. Text reads โThe 12th-13th century Cistercian Abbey of Strata Florida in Ceredigion is built from imported stone in addition to the local greywackes. Some of these freestones were also used for Llanbadarn church. Morning: Strata Florida Abbey. Introduction to the local and building stone geology by Tim and Ruth. We will then explore the abbey site to identify the different stone types in situ and their reuse in later buildings. Lunch Picnic at Strata Florida or lunch at The Black Lion, Pontrhydfendigaid. Afternoon: Llanbadarn Church. Imported stones are also seen in the fabric of the church. The interior also reveals a C12th Purbeck marble font, and a C10th Celtic stone carved from granodiorite from Cader Idris. Logistics Strata Florida is 19 miles from Aberystwyth and best visited by car. A taxi ride for 4 people from Aberystwyth railway station to Strata Florida would take 1โ2 hour and cost approximately ยฃ40. A return taxi to Llanbardarn Fawr would cost a similar amount. The church is a 25 minute walk from the railway station.

Tourists visiting the area tend to flock to the well-known spots (Antelope Canyon, The Wave, etc.) but with a decent pair of trail runners and some navigation skills, there are wonders to be found everywhere.

Happy #FossilFriday here is a wee climate paper that I coauthored. We found that 20kya eastern Washington was drying and warming up and chasing away all the pesky pine trees (ew, trees).
As usual with pleistocene stuff, my job was figuring out how old all the dirt was (age-depth modelling)
