My girls waiting for the "SCARY" bus
12.08.2025 02:27 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0it's better in DC too - not quite to the extent that you guys are at, but down compared to last year (and WAY down compared to 2023).
we have some additional challenges here wrt how crimes are prosecuted that makes DC a bit more difficult to tackle.
yep - if we were gonna get this with her, might as well have had someone like White who wasn't as corrupt.
11.08.2025 15:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0B'more literally went 16 days in the height of summer without a homicide, which is unprecedented
11.08.2025 15:38 β π 50 π 1 π¬ 3 π 0lol i swear this site sometimes...
please continue doing what you're doing - your work is awesome
you can likewise tell when someone doesn't understand the architecture of LLMs or how neural networks / transformers work with such comments.
10.08.2025 17:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Chavez passed away from cancer at a fairly young age. Of course Maduro has somehow been worse.
09.08.2025 20:15 β π 24 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah obviously there are still vast differences- this isnβt AGI or whatever the en vogue term is these days. I just donβt think itβs completely foreign to how the brain responds to input. Obviously itβs much simpler than how we function - perhaps a very rudimentary approximation
09.08.2025 19:12 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0oh you mean is it different from humans - sorry read that wrong. Yeah, I mean that's certainly up for debate. But one could argue that how we respond in a given situation, to a given question, etc has some foundation in what we've learned/past experiences etc.
09.08.2025 19:08 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0"word expansion" is a profound simplification (bordering on just being wrong) regarding what is actually happening. It's fundamentally next-token prediction, which really isn't the same thing.
09.08.2025 19:06 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Thatβs not really accurate. It creates a massive probability distribution from your input to choose the most likely words to follow - obviously heavily influenced by all the RLHF and other post-training techniques that OpenAI et al use. Is that really all that different from how humans respond?
09.08.2025 18:05 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0lol right? they are already going to places with tons of cops anyway. For some reason they aren't going to places like Benning Rd...
09.08.2025 02:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0lol dudes on their phones - just like the MPD.
09.08.2025 02:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0lol yeah I get it - uphill to get there.
03.08.2025 02:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0i assume it was virtually simultaneous - it was only a big deal in NYC because you could feel it if you were in a building (which, in Manhattan, lots of people are lol). I don't think it caused any real damage like it did in DC and VA.
03.08.2025 02:52 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0it's one of my favorite buildings. My daughter was doing summer camp there so we were walking by it every day.
03.08.2025 02:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0our office manager thought it was a terrorist attack and started freaking out. Luckily I had a text from my mom in VA from about 30 seconds prior saying "we just had an earthquake!!"
03.08.2025 02:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0there is a bunch on the north facing side (facing Woodley Rd NW).
03.08.2025 02:44 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0yep - although I'm not sure how much is earthquake related (I do think some of it is).
I was in the Chrysler Bldg when the DC quake hit. All the high rises swayed (that was fun lol) but on the ground in NYC you couldn't feel it. Tons of people were streaming out of buildings in midtown
Australia with yet another reminder to humanity - do not live here.
01.08.2025 03:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0the subway is so scawwwyy (as a group of kindergartners flood into a subway car)
29.07.2025 03:52 β π 12 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0well now we know he basically parked (double parked, of course) in front of the building and walked in - so I suppose limited time for such a call to make much of a difference.
29.07.2025 03:03 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0dude was walking down Park Ave with a long gun. I know we've all seen crazy shit in NYC, but did no one call the cops? You've got cameras everywhere. Like you said, there are always cops there plus nearby you have tons of MTA police.
29.07.2025 02:23 β π 10 π 3 π¬ 2 π 0last person I want to hear from about how to deal with policing in NYC is some blowhard from Louisiana
29.07.2025 02:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0damn this was 12 years ago??? Ugh...
23.07.2025 02:43 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0lol the baseball gods are gonna remember that one.
22.07.2025 02:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0not surprisingly, a lot revolves around stuff you can do along Blue Ridge Pkwy or in Shenandoah National Park. Crozet is a cool little town. Waynesboro has some cool spots, but its downtown largely fell victim to urban renewal decades ago (although they are trying to bring it back some).
22.07.2025 02:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0oh yeah, that's about 100 miles. There really isn't much between C'ville and the west end of the Richmond suburbs.
22.07.2025 02:17 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0kinda shocked it went in completely wrong direction lol. I guess since its a probabilistic model, maybe it saw more text about going between C'ville and Fredericksburg
22.07.2025 02:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0it's about 35 miles - you cross the Blue Ridge Mountains.
