Why Is It So Hard to Mass-Produce Housing?
YouTube video by About Here Why Is It So Hard to Mass-Produce Housing?

I’m excited to share my latest video with Urbanarium, "Why It's So Hard to Mass-Produce Housing." Factory-built housing is a promising idea in theory, but it turns out to be a very complicated endeavor in practiceβ€”here’s why: youtu.be/26iVJfiDgP0?...

The aftermath of a fatal crash at Nanaimo and Kingsway. A body lies in the north crosswalk under a white sheet. A box truck belonging to Sunrise Soya Foods is directly in front of the body, headed northbound on Nanaimo. A police SUV with lights on is in the southbound lanes on Nanaimo, with a police officer standing next to it. More officers are on the sidewalk. Another police SUV is in Kingsway, facing west. Police tape surrounds the scene.

Screenshot of a tweet from the Vancouver Police Department. It reads, #VanTraffic: #VPD officers are responding to a fatal collision between a cyclist and a vehicle in the area of Kingsway and Nanaimo. Traffic on Nanaimo Street in both directions will be impacted while investigators collect evidence. Please use an alternate route. More information will be provided when available.

1/ Another tragedy on Nanaimo St. Less than a week after a driver plowed onto a sidewalk by a bus stop, just two weeks after a pedestrian was critically injured, a cyclist has been killed 3 blocks south. These aren’t accidentsβ€”they’re policy failures. We know how to stop this.

I'm equally interested in knowing what is planned for the Columbia station upgrade. I would wonder if now that they own the surrounding building if they are making moves to improve the transition between each platform. Would love to see some kind of modifications similar to Commercial-Broadway.

Graphic comparing person trips per hour, illustrating that Skytrain, Sidewalks, transit and bike-lanes move a lot more people than car lanes.

When you remember that mobility in cities is largely about space, & when you see the striking math involved, you understand that EVERY person walking, biking & taking public transit is helping cities succeed and helping EVERYONE move better, including drivers. #Vancouver’s Math via City of Vancouver

I doubt I'll ever be at the point where I can use even half the power of a mod like this. I can't wait to see what people who have that time, imagination, and ability can make with this tool. I'm also glad that not everything needs to be a surface or area anymore, I have too many nodes!
