Here's what Jose is working on currently: I am testing clear and pigmented silicone samples with skin cells to make sure that they do not cause harm to patients after wearing them. I use a fluorescent spectrometer to quantify cell growth and activity with a standardized assay.

Alice is combining cell culture techniques with materials science to create a 3D skin construct that can be aged in vitro by precisely adjusting its mechanical properties. This is done using the Biox6 system, an advanced bioprinter that supports high throughput 3D cell culture and biofabrication.

My research is exploring different fabrication strategies for soft materials using Aerosol Jet Printing. This currently includes the creation of standardised test specimens, using differing process parameters, that are then used for evaluation of their physical properties.

My research concerns the investigation of the high-definition computer-controlled printing of silicones, specifically for printing viscous silicones for use as an outer coating for facial prosthetics. This involves examining and understanding new methods of atomising these viscous silicones..
