Not sure where this sudden influx of new followers came from but welcome, welcome. Let me know if you want to be mutuals. I don't always post, though, and when I do, it's mostly about academics and politics and things pertaining to my hobbies (music and tarot).

I'm in training to become a Deaf Interpreter. Been thinking how best to support folks I've had the privilege of engaging with in my research. This training will help me write that paper I've been wanting to write for the longest time-- strategies for supporting immigrant deaf students of color.

This 53 year old man who lived in my neighborhood w/no criminal record & who had been in the US for 30 years, was detained and thrown into a cold cell for days, caught pneumonia and COVID there and deported.

He finally died.

The average public school in the U.S. has 500 students. ICE is currently detaining over 7 schools' worth of children, many of whom are being held in inhumane conditions.

Children do not belong in government detention.

Me: The people in the government are not doing their job. They're spending money on things like wars instead of schools. But Omma and I will do our best to keep you and your brother safe.

And as a community member who’s being affected, I don’t need your livestreams, webinars, or the like. I need your actual support— mutual aid, physical protection, etc.

Today's the start of a new semester for a lot of us - if you have job security and live in a reasonably safe state (not everyone, obviously, but if it's you), put the fascism that we're living under on your syllabus. It is hugely important to offer your students this education, no matter your field.

Rolling my eyes at deaf influencers using the ICE attacks as an opportunity to boost their clout by advertising themselves as advocates for deaf communities without mentioning race, like the point is willfully being missed…
