Library services are central to small communities. They would be a huge loss if not funded. One of my biggest arguments for socialized medicine is that we live in a country where access to books are a right but being healthy is not. I am horrified to lose this point.

Without education or initiatives, will others do what is right to make sure their team is diverse? A homogeneous team with no different perspective might not be the best thing to have food outcomes- will managers even know this without DEI education?

I can't recall a single bad hire who was black. I do know I have had a few white bad hires that I had to fire eventually. This was just my experience, 2001 -2018, no one told me I had to, we had no intuitive or quotas. It was the right thing to do.

The patients I served deserved to see caregivers who looked like them. You see, I am willing to say the quiet part out loud..most managers have an unconscious bias to hire those who look like them. I had to make a CONSCIOUS effort not to do that.

I practiced DEI before it was a thing. I was a nurse manager on a maternity unit where the majority of our patients were black. When I conducted interviews and I had a black nurse and a white nurse who were equally qualified and both seemed a food fit, I would select the black nurse. 1/

I wish we could cultivate a culture where people get excited about and share the new skills they've learned more than the new stuff they've bought.
