Invasive Weed Alert! This is the time of year to on the lookout for invasive Fig Buttercup (Ficaria verna)growing in your yard, drainage ditches, and streams in natural areas.

This aggressive plant disrupts the ecological balance of natural ecosystems and displaces existing native spring wildflowers & native plant communities. Fig Buttercup easily spreads offsite from home landscapes and into drainage ways leading to nearby streams and floodplains.

If you spot it, post it on iNaturalist so it can be tracked and removed by volunteers from the NC Invasive Plant Council!

Keep an eye out for this pretty but terrible invasive plant. Fig Buttercup (Ficaria verna) spreads in yards, drainage ditches, & streams in natural areas. It rapidly chokes out natives. If you spot it, post it on iNaturalist so it can be tracked & removed by NC Invasive Plant Council volunteers

I'd like at add a few things to this. (1) humanists have not been able to convince any political party that curiosity-driven humanities research is a public good that should be funded using tax dollars. Republicans don't believe this, but neither do Democrats.

I'll be hosting a Silent Book Club event this Thursday, Feb 5, 6–8pm at The Bike Library cafe in downtown Raleigh, NC. I'll talk a little about my book and will bring along a selection of other books about ancient Mesopotamia, beer, and archaeology for browsing. Hope to see you there!

Since July, I've tracked at least 2,300 cases in which federal judges have ruled ICE has illegally detained people without bond or due process.

This is one that stands out:

It's been a long time since Contracts 101, but wouldn't this dramatically change the rules on all business dealings as well through the postmark rule?

If you’re wondering why your friends in academia are a little on edge right now, it’s because an eighteen-year-old who hasn’t done the reading, doesn’t look at the assignment, and has does no critical thinking skills more complex than β€œbecause I think it’s in the Bible” can literally end your career

AI is Destroying the University and Learning Itself Students use AI to write papers, professors use AI to grade them, degrees become meaningless, and tech companies make fortunes. Welcome to the death of higher education.
