Massive thank you to my mentors @drseligowski.bsky.social & bluesky-less Kate McHugh, and ofc the many others who have supported me in getting here. It's been a ride, thanks for always reminding me that this is a marathon not a sprint ☺️

What better time than now to do a survey on the experiences of inequity among academics? Please share! ~20 min.

Federal Funding Chaos: What It Means for Psychology Federal funding for psychological research is in chaos. Here's one lab's story of the impacts of this funding confusion and what it means for the future of treatment development.

Amplifying this blog in @psychologytoday.com about the impact of funding freezes and general chaos on the field of clinical psychology, especially in hospital settings, by Training Director of the McLean Hospital Clinical Psych Internship Program, Courtney Beard.

Defunding SAMHSA won’t make mental health and substance use challenges magically disappear. This isn’t peekaboo. It’s real people with real problems and in a country without other social and health safety nets they are cutting it to provide tax cuts to billionaires.

VA Research Funding Slashed Though not as prominent as the NIH, VA researchers play a major role in advancing basic health science. Hundreds of projects have been cut.

NIH cuts are getting the press, but VA research is getting slashed too. What do we lose when VA research goes away? Here's some greatest hits: The nicotine patch, invention of the cardiac pacemaker, first successful liver transplant, development of the CAT/CT scan

I just called my reps with @5calls.org, you should too: 5calls.org

Make your voice heard!
Today I discussed NIH and NSF cuts with my lawmakers. I shared my unique story, as well as talked about the health and economic impacts of these cuts.

I am calling due to grave concerns with the freezing of communications at Federal agencies. Specifically, I am calling regarding HHS and the National Institutes of Health, including the indefinite suspension of council review meetings, review section, and travel. Currently, our state of [insert state here] benefits from over $654 million [WI data; insert data from your state here] in biomedical research funding from the NIH with a significant portion of that going to support jobs, innovation, and education, translating to $1.64 Billion in economic activity [WI data; insert data from your state here]. As a concerned local [citizen/resident/scientist/researcher/educator], I urge you to make sure that the money that has already been allocated for NIH extramural funding, including all training and workforce development grants remain committed. Having this funding removed would be disastrous for our local economy, important university biomedical research, and would lead to the loss of thousands of research training positions at the staff, postdoctoral, and graduate student level. NIH has always benefited from Congressional support across political ideologies, and continuing to commit to its funding and extramural projects ensures our country remains at the forefront of biomedical research efforts and innovations.

I think over the next few years the evidence will continue to accumulate that the majority of mental disorders are best treated with short, highly intensive therapies. This will challenge many assumptions on how therapy works.
