Ophrys reinholdii is one of the Mediterraneans most beautiful & elegant looking orchids in our opinion. The best place to see it is Rhodes, where we find lots and with a nice variety of colour & marking, on our orchid tour each spring.

For our #orctober theme today here’s one from a new tour we have there in spring, the beautiful Ophrys aesculapii.

It’s the shed exoskeleton of a cicada.

For #orctober today, one of the many highlights of the @greenwings orchid tour in Rhodes this year was the hybrid between Ophrys mammosa and O. reinholdii.

I can't wait to see what we find on the 2026 one!

This is the story of my daughter Milly and Lyme Disease. There was no rash, no "summer flu", NHS blood tests negative. And she's been ill for a quarter of her life.

Sunday is the day of rest, but I’m happily working away on several new @greenwingstours.bsky.social European tours that are on the horizon & will be launched between now & the end of October.

Classic scene this time of year, Aegean Meadow Brown (Maniola telmessia) nectaring on Carlina gummifera. Not many flowers until the autumn rains come, so these thistles are v valuable to insects.

It’s Fritillary Friday again. Here’s a Titania’s Frit by Alice H and a Marbled Frit by Harry F.
