Facebook memory from 5 years ago: It’s a bit strange that when I’m knitting, the vast majority of the actual actions I’m performing are “using knitting needles to pull loops of yarn through each other”, i.e. knitting. Depending on what I’m knitting, there will also be a certain amount of measuring, counting, possibly unknitting, and perhaps writing or spreadsheeting, but it’s mostly knitting. On the other hand, I’ve been sewing this afternoon, though at no point have I “used a needle to draw thread in and out of fabric”.

This one came up in Facebook memories today. I do a lot more sewing and a lot less knitting than I did five years ago, but I still think about this a lot.

Went to get tea with colleagues who're 20 years younger than me. Cafe was playing 'Especially for you'. I wailed about incipient earworm, but colleagues did not know the song. The woman serving coffee (my age) and I shared a moment of experiencing our age. The damn thing is still playing in my head.

My excellent friend @ickbat.bsky.social is Kickstarting a role playing game inspired by the gorgeous novella This is How You Lose The Time War. Cannot wait to play this.

Ah, sewing is 90% prep and 10% making. Knitting is 10% prep (incl. brewing tea/coffee) and 90% making.

Picked up some delights in the Oxfam superstore today: unopened copy of an Agatha Christie card game, beautiful purple scarf-shawl, and a piece of blue possibly-wool fabric with pretty selvedges. Regret going out because my body ran out of battery half way round, but don’t regret these!
