Math Is Quietly in Crisis over NSF Funding Cuts A 72 percent reduction in federal funding is devastating to math research. The American Mathematical Society is offering $1 million in backstop grants—but it’s likely not enough.

Math is in crisis. The NSF claims the over $80M in cuts is due to "changing priorities" but when asked how math fits to their new priorities they said it is "required to advance future discoveries in every critical technology area." What gives??? www.scientificamerican.com/article/can-...

The joke is, they still don't know shit about math and feel like gods because they passed calculus.

We don't have one but I feel like learning how to write well structured proofs should be the objective of every class and it's kind of pointless to have one dedicated to it. That's what homeworks are for.

Fun travel tip: forced perspective and a few plastic dinosaurs can make all your travel photos more interesting.

Completely predictably, those who find this cartoon funny are THE SAME PEOPLE who post Common Core memes that mock the "new age" math curricula for prioritizing critical thinking over rote memorization. 🙄 #ITeachMath #MathSky

maturing is realizing that there is a general concept of what these terms mean and you can usually see the concept reflected in different mathematical object and it's beautiful

the sham legacy of Richard Feynman
YouTube video by Angela Collier the sham legacy of Richard Feynman

I found this to be a really interesting video. A good attempt to separate Feynman the man from his stories and his physics. Also an indictment of the popular science publishing industry.

The Paradox of Gilmore Girls and the Sopranos
Media
In Season 6, episode 4 an episode of the Sopranos, an episode of Gilmore Girls is playing on TV.
In Season 7, episode 17 of Gilmore Girls, Richard is wearing a tracksuit. Lorelai makes a joke about it by asking if he's having lunch with Tony Soprano.
So obviously this means that both the Sopranos and Gilmore Girls exist as television shows in the other's respective universe. B ut more alarmingly, this means that each universe has now become a televised universe of itself within their own universes. When the Gilmore Girls watch the Sopranos, they will see themselves in the show.
Likewise, when Tony Soprano watches Gilmore Girls, he will witness a direct reference to himself. It's like the effect of two mirrors facing each other: the universes of the Gilmore Girls and the Sopranos are infinitely replicated all the way down.
