When the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act was passed I thought great we’ve won I never thought we’d be fighting a Labour government tooth and nail for just common sense and decency on benefits. The wheel has turned back 30 years.

I never wanted to be normal but I never wanted my disability to be a barrier. So I pushed against anyone who dared to say I wasn’t capable of doing something. I’ve become a fiction author recently. I would like to write something about disability experiences but I feel depressed at where we are

I’m 67 been a ‘disabled activist’ all my life and I bet you’ve never heard of me. It’s because I’ve rejected the organisations disabled people formed as ineffective. They spent most of their time disagreeing amongst themselves. My effective work was in the workplace and as trustee.

The three formats of Who Wants Normal? - hardback, audiobook, and e-book - sit in front of a background of the Disability Pride flag.

This Disability Pride month, I’m grateful for the readers who say Who Wants Normal? is helping them feel more valued and confident. This book was never about downplaying inequality but proudly rejecting the shame and stereotypes the non-disabled world forces on us. With jokes.

Farage is a symptom not the problem as is Trump people refer to his ‘supporters’ as if it’s their fault. It’s Tory and Labour cynically manipulating voters and finally being caught out that’s fuelled populism. The system is broken and we need to fix it together.

And Starmer’s answer is to think about appointing someone from the Sun as his communication director-a plague on all their houses at the moment democracy is failing us completely

So at 67 what I should be a fossil lol 😂

Starmer’s becomes more like Blair with each passing day
