Two Trumpeter Swans are curled into a ball while napping on lake ice.

I saw that the pair of Trumpeter Swans that nests in a park near me have returned! They always appear before any meaningful ice melt on the lake, but they are patient.

My favorite bird shot from the rented Laowa 200mm f/2 that I had last weekend. Shooting a telephoto at f/2 is such a unique experience. I really need to get one permanently.

A vertical photo of a winter sunset scene along Lake Superior. The shoreline is made up of black basalt rock, fractured into jagged boulders and vertical columns. A channel in the rock allows Lake Superior to enter the scene in the center. The rocks are covered in ice, most of it thick and opaque, some covered in snow, while the rest is clear, allowing the color of the rock underneath to be seen. The wind is blowing, causing the lake to have 2-3' waves. Due to a long exposure, the waves crashing along the shoreline and into the channel makes the water look white. Droplets sprayed from crashing waves appears as mist in the air. The sun is setting out of frame to the right of the image. The sky above is partly cloudy. Long clouds layer the sky, stretching horizontally across the sky. The sky is lit with pastel orange and yellow from the sunset. The last rays of sunset also illuminate the rock and ice faces and the mist, giving them a glow. The entire scene is split toned. The shadows have a very blue color, while the highlights have a warm orange color.

A sunset along Lake Superior is always time well spent.

A little break from the atrocities of the world. The other night I went out to the desert on a whim to shoot the full moon rising by my favorite saguaro.

I got to travel to Iceland for the first time in 2021 right after vaccinations were available. The national parks were very empty. This is a fall morning in #Thingevellir National Park. #UNESCO world Heritage site.

Living dinosaurs

It’s so much work finding them. Sometimes it’s easier to concentrate on larger birds and ducks. It’s really easy here in MN since we even have the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” as one of our mottos.

It can be overwhelming at first, but it's crazy once you know, "that's a Kingfisher" a pond over just based on sound.
