Having the freedom of choice is 10/10 gamedesign. It doesn't matter much in the story, but it matters to you, the player.

This is also why games benefit by having mean/evil options. Choosing to be kind is more impactful than being forced to choose 1 of 3 kind responses.

I can agree that some things should've had a bigger impact, like maybe having a different escape route in the arm-chop route, or having the other characters help out more 💀

But I think the outcome being the same is fine. It's pretty vague if he dies of bloodloss or if the cut was too late

I love the Save Shawn vs Duck choice. The choice is inconsequential in that the outcome is always the same, but depending on your choice characters will view Lee different. What was his gut instinct? Saving the child, the adult trapped under a tractor, or did he freeze/not make a decision?

Just watched a blind playthrough of it and they got super invested in the story and characters early in chapter 1, it's probably one of Telltale's best games

THAT SAID, I'm glad to see games with actual big branching stories! Haven't played Dispatch yet but I'm eyeing it

I think the lack of power can make sense and make the story more realistic. Sometimes the consequence of your choice is different from what you thought it'd be.

Telltale choices are more like Bioware choices, the story stays the same with mostly character-focused changes.

Growing up is realizing Telltale games "your choices matter" doesn't mean "the story will drastically change based on your choices"

"I saved X character but they die next episode" but you prolonged their life and changed how they'd die, that's still affecting the story
