I keep thinking about how General Gronewold said that the Oregon Guard would protect Oregonian protesters. I would love to see the Guard stand in front of that blue line at the ICE building and protect protesters from the illegal and brutal actions of ICE. What a powerful image that would create.

The Girl Who Waits: Eastman Johnsonโ€™s Haunting Vision Eastman Johnsonโ€™s painting, The Girl I Left Behind Me (1872), captures a moment of tension and yearning. The nameless girl, standing on a foggy bluff, symbolizes those left behind as her hairโ€ฆ

Thoughts from today: when you're sharing news stories, are you framing your presentation of said story in a way that promotes your ultimate goal of restoring democracy? Are you motivating people to take action? Or scaring the shit out of them? Is your framing aiding the fascists or fighting them?

Having a hard time keeping up with things in your daily life?

World outside seems upside down?

No longer enjoying the same things you once did?

Future feels dark and scary?

You may be experiencing fascism. Fortunately, thereโ€™s a cure!

Illustration by Eleonor Piteira featuring a woman on a balcony, holding a bouquet of red carnations, giving one of them to a soldier passing below, placing it on the muzzle of his gun while he looks up at her. All around, other soldiers walk beside him, some wearing red carnations on the muzzles of their guns too, others waiting for their turn to get one. On the background, Portuguese tiles frame the woman, while the balcony's railing slowly transforms into a streetlamp typical of Lisbon (with a caravel and 2 ravens, the symbols of the city).

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD JUST LET US HAVE A FEW MOMENTS OF HOPE

Do yโ€™all not understand how hope is active? How it is motivating? How it drives people to fight?

If you try to stamp out every last ray of hope and every good moment and every tiny bit of happiness you have truly doomed us all.

A young Black girl in a white blouse and red jumper dress walks down concrete steps while being escorted by four U.S. federal marshals in dark suits. The marshals surround her protectively as they descend the steps of what appears to be a school building. This iconic photograph captures Ruby Bridges being escorted to school during the integration of New Orleans schools in 1960.

Happy birthday to Ruby Bridges, who is the reason I was even able to pursue proper, fair higher education. What she had to endure as the first Black child to integrate schools was unimaginable. I will forever be grateful. โ™ฅ๏ธ
