Did they try sunlight? Or bleach? I heard there was a correlation.

27.09.2025 18:23 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Itβs my dream, however, that the various woodworking factions (please donβt call us splinter groups) one day unite to overthrow the concrete usurpers, restoring the natural order.
24.09.2025 15:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And I see IWF just announced IWF West in San Antonio on their alternate years, so another option, but that will put the date pretty close to AWFS Vegas time. (And probably compete for vendors and attendees.) Neither are as large as World of Concrete unfortunately.
24.09.2025 15:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yep, awfsfair.org was in late July. It alternates with iwfatlanta.com every other year. IWF in Atlanta is a little bigger, but slightly more focused on industrial/professional woodworking. Of course, if youβre ever near Des Moines, stop by our office and I can give you the nickel tour of our shop.
19.09.2025 22:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Iβm going to guess ipe (Pronounced ee-pay) based on the flecking in the grain and the density & weight. Brazilian hardwood. Long-lasting in decks and outdoor furniture. Resists fire and moisture, even salt water. Used in Atlantic shore boardwalks. A bit pricey, though. Tough on blades and bits.
30.08.2025 01:56 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yes! I do this all the time. The brown paper bags always get diverted out to my shop. I like to use it between finish coats.
17.08.2025 14:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That offer stands for any woodworkers passing through Des Moines. I give the best tours because Iβll let you ride on the freight elevator even though the sign says not to and I show you all the weird parts of the basement. Not in a serial killer way; in a the-building-has-a-lot-of-history way.
06.08.2025 13:52 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hey @nickofferman.bsky.social congratulations on Little Woodchucks! I snagged a ticket for the Des Moines book tour stop, so hopefully Iβll be able to say hi. But if youβre in town a bit early Iβd be happy to give you the nickel tour of the WOOD magazine shops. sites.prh.com/little-woodc...
06.08.2025 13:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Will be a short article about making custom half-tone images using a V-bit on the CNC. Here was my test piece featuring Georgie
30.07.2025 21:35 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Been a while since they let me write an article for this magazine Iβm supposedly in charge of. But, I got in a solid stretch of prop making and studio time this week working on a fun little CNC technique. #woodworking #CNC #woodmagazine

01.07.2025 23:03 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Donβt do it. My family owes our lives to my mother-in-law, a weather app, and frantic texts from 3 states away any time a tornado is within 300 miles of us.

18.04.2025 13:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This represents a single criteria on one of 11 saws in the test during which we will measure multiple times, then average. We try to be thorough, but stay firmly in the realm of the experiential. You're not going to use your mitersaw like it's a science project, so we try to test like woodworkers.
18.04.2025 13:50 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A detail shot of a testing procedure for a cordless mitersaw showing how much sawdust was left behind after cutting when using the saw's dust bag. The label "Milwaukee" is marked on a scrap of wood and a placard reading "On Table With Bag" sits next to the saw denoting how much sawdust remained on the worksurface after the cut.

Shipping the files off to the printer for the July issue of WOOD magazine. The cover article is a nice little head-to-head compact cordless mitersaw test. Here is a collection of detail shots that you will never see in the magazine, but show you the detail our testers dive into.

17.04.2025 20:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Elegant Shaker-style pencil-post bed handcrafted from warm-toned wood, shown in a serene bedroom with soft green walls. The bed features slender tapered posts connected by canopy rails with draped white fabric. A matching wooden dresser and nightstand complete the minimalist, traditional aesthetic.
Working on releasing some free woodworking plans into the wild. Here's one for a pencil-post Shaker-style bed. It uses a fun jig for making tapers on 8' legs. Enjoy! www.woodmagazine.com/project-plan...
17.04.2025 20:10 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0The sole thing that kept me from being a Satisfactory addict is that, apparently as I aged, 1st person games started making me nauseous. Tried to power through, but getting to tube level of tech made it ten times worse. I used to play a mean Unreal Tournament. Get off my lawn. You kids today.

28.03.2025 00:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That is actually my current solution in my home shop. I got rid of the giant plywood rack, covered the walls with lumber storage racks and just lean sheets against the wall. Shopβs still a hopeless mess, but itβs a hopeless mess with a little extra space.
26.03.2025 12:04 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So repeated concepts sometimes, but we try to target different needs.
26.03.2025 11:15 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0This one was designed for the person who does a project at a time, so full sheets never stay in the shop long. Thereβs a pull-out tray to hold them temporarily. But the whole thing fits into a smaller footprint for the other 99% of the time after youβve broken the sheet down.
26.03.2025 11:15 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0With the cart in this issue, we were discussing how several of us started our shops eagerly building the biggest plywood carts we could find plans for before realizing they took up so much space and became a scrap magnet.
26.03.2025 11:15 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So we try to plan our year to slot in a decent number. Then we try to add a bit of a twist or gimmick on those when we can so that even if itβs not exactly right for your shop, there are ideas you can use.
26.03.2025 11:15 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0affect whether youβre interested. If you donβt like Federal style or have a need for that storage, for instance, then you may get some good ideas from that cover project, but ultimately thatβs a chunk of the magazine thatβs not directly for you. Shop projects are a lot more universal.
26.03.2025 11:15 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We use a lot of plywood!
We generally try to overserve on shop projects-storage, jigs, bases, stands, workbenches, DIY tools, etc. The one thing all of our readers have in common is that they have or want a shop. In most other categories of projects-design style, household need, seasonality, etc
