Their FAQ explicitly says it's not available on "smart TVs" and I know the language is strange I feel like that applies the logic that it's not on any app store, because with the exception of Apple, the major app stores like Google, Amazon, Roku, and Samsung all operate the same apps across devices.

Yes that's called 2FA & IVR. Which is perhaps your point. But consider the world:

Unnervingly trivial to spoof a SIM intercept texts. Authenticators are better; harder to get average people to use.

Voice printing? Not today. I don't WANT them to have mine, and 3 words can make passable AI clones.

The real answer is because they then have to acknowledge that you exist, have service, and have unpaid debt with their company. Potentially validating your service address, date of birth, and what you are paying for, along the way.

It's CYA for all the def. rare, but real ways this info can harm.

They do it because the alternatives have shown to be worse, and more expensive for them, either in loss of rep/trust, or in directly financial hits from fines and lawsuits

Even security theater allows them to imply, and claim, they are doing everything in their power to protect you when it happens.

These things can be used to track people and their activities, including financial information and medical history. If not directly, they can be used to socially engineer access to more important information.

Companies don't create complicated security measures simply to burn money and frustrate us

Small pieces of information add up.

Especially when they're the small pieces of information that you are usually asked when trying to validate yourself in the first place.

That also includes proof that you exist, live at a location, have service with a given company, and have a valid way to pay.
