Scientific freedom doesn’t mean that all opinions must be given consideration, or even courtesy.

There are many truly fatuous, unreasonable, and useless opinions.

Must NASA entertain the opinions of astrologers?

Must pilots entertain the opinions of chemtrail conspiracy theorists?

No.

VA plans to seek public guardianship for some veterans deemed unable to care for themselves The effort will extend to hundreds of veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness but lack family support or legal representation.

I don’t know fam it feels like giving the government guardianship over unhoused veterans and forcing them into institutions might be bad.

Thanks to @heritagehunter.bsky.social for the heads up.

Is/was it hard for you?

Yep, all those things. Often I don’t really know what she means or how to do it or if I’m doing it right. She says the lightheaded buzz is normal and it’ll get better. This could also be discomfort at not quickly doing things well — it’s apparently therapy/personal growth too. 😂

Good to always be open to shittiness!

I’m hoping to have faster progress by taking it more seriously and practicing a lot more, but this was going to be just a fun thing to try for a few months. My teacher says I’m doing fine but she has a motivation to keep me coming.

Keep in mind that I might just not be good at this. Much as I hate to admit it, these things do happen. 😂

Every year the news slouches closer to an all clickbait model, where every article is called “this will make you mad”

I thought I would be ok because at one time I have been a concert pianist and sang chorale in HS and college but omg this is an entirely different beast. Fascinating, but so difficult! I leave each time sweaty and lightheaded.

Is it just me? Maybe I am simply bad at this and she hasn’t told me?

Is anyone I know here a singer/vocalist? I have been taking voice lessons for a couple months now, on a bit of a lark, thinking I would go and maybe improve what I sound like when I sing along to the radio.

Is it this hard for other people too??

“Our integrity sells for so little, but it is all that we really have. It is the very last inch of us. But within that inch, we are free... An inch; it is small, and it is fragile, and it is the only thing in the world worth having.”

If I had to do it now I’d probably go trawl the Goodwill shelves with a magnet.

Yup! I use vintage cast iron from my family, ceramic cast iron, and Emeril SS pots and pans I bought like 20 years ago that a magnet sticks to.

Yes! Wipe and go. My favorite is that often my handles are cool enough to grab without a mitt. For derpy cooks like me, that's a big safety bonus.

Huh! Interesting. That's good to know about. Mine is pretty new (changed from gas) and sizes up and down with the pan. We use a 7ish in diameter cast iron on the big middle burner without issue. (We like that one when we make my kid a hamburger because it's centered under the fan.)

Cooking in general is fantastic. You’ll have to stop letting the pan sit for a minute to heat up because it heats so much faster. That’s…the only downside I can think of other than that you’ll need iron containing pans. They might be heavier than you are used to. I use Emeril SS and cast iron.

I LOVE my induction cooktop. Love. It heats super fast, lets me plop utensils around, has no open flame or gas, doesn’t require a tank, keeps pot handles cool. If you are curious, ask me about it!

It wasn't long ago that we were told the energy transition would have to slow because the world didn't have enough lithium.

Apart from the moral repugnance, this is so revealing of how ignorant conservatives are about poverty. Poor people have to think about money ALL THE TIME. They worry constantly about what everything costs, how to substitute one purchase for another, what bill can be put off until payday, etc.

They used our taxes, spent a bajillion dollars to make propaganda, and then gave the money to themselves

“Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem’s taxpayer-funded immigration ad campaign cost more than nearly every film nominated for Best Picture at the 2026 Academy Awards.”

Double harvest: Vertical solar panels and crops thrive side by side Imagine a field where solar panels and crops coexist—with no trade-off. It sounds like science fiction, but that's precisely what researchers from Aarhus University have now documented in a full-scale...

This is still a top contender. lt focuses on wind protection and doesn't provide much shade. Slightly less solar production, but installation and long term maintenance are less.
