Aardvark Burrows Could be Ground Zero for the Next Pandemic - bioGraphic Animals of all kinds mix and mingle in underground burrows, offering troubling opportunities for diseases to jump species.

In an alternate universe, I am an epidemiologist. What can we learn about animal burrows when we train cameras on them? Who visits them? Many curious animals and, well, that could be worrisome: www.biographic.com/aardvark-bur... 🧪🦤🌍 #conservation #biodiversity

Plight of the Bumblebees A journey into the wild and not-so-wild world of bumblebees and the unintended consequences of domestication.

In the 1980s, farmers began using captive-bred bumblebees to pollinate crops that couldn't be adequately pollinated by honeybees, such as greenhouse tomatoes. Now, decades later, the impact on native species and habitats is finally coming into focus. Our latest feature by @judeisabella.bsky.social:

Austria's largest glacier (overlooked by Austria's highest peak) has suffered greatly from recent years of record losses and will lose its valley tongue in the near future (it is no longer fed from above) 📈🌡️😭

Now this is exciting.

Antonin and his team have just published a study showing that the number of migrating hoverflies through Czechia are positively correlated with the numbers of birds!
Suggests that the birds are using the flies as fuel on migration.

Banning wildlife trade can increase trade of other threatened species Wildlife trade bans can encourage buyers and sellers to trade in similar species that haven’t been banned but may still be endangered.

¿Per què és important buscar solucions àmplies als problemes de conservació?
Prohibir el comerç de certes espècies amenaçades, pot augmentar el comerç d'altres en situacions similars.

Old oak tree with twisted branches in autumn woodland of ancient oaks

Old oak tree with twisted branches in autumn woodland of ancient oaks

A single 400-year-old ancient oak produces 234,000 litres of oxygen a year while soaking up carbon dioxide, and can support more than 2,000 species of bird, insect, fungus, and lichen. Nature is amazing - we need more of it, not less. Please repost if you agree 🌳
