The implication is that the Toledo war was refought and won by Michigan this time, and they didn’t have to give up the UP

What is the Großmichigan flag?

That part makes sense but I’m still not convinced that the economics work for providing taxi services (or that they are particularly exciting if they do)

I think Uber’s model, which leverages private car owners, has them subsidize fleet costs, and can scale up or down on demand, is more compelling

πŸ’―, those proposals are simply not serious

I still don’t understand the economics of it; scale just means more cars to own, maintain, and replace, and I’m not sure how it helps with margin in a business like this

And they have a not terrible brand until they have a Cruise incident. Which they will, with scale

Why would Waymo be able to do it (it will be a low margin high hassle business for them too)

I don’t mean to be cynical but I swear I remember reading similar β€œreinvent the process” things about the development of the 1986 Taurus

Porsche’s cooled seats are also notably weak. Nice to have in a convertible, but definitely not worth giving up the cloth centers that are one of the exclusive bits for a T

I’d love to do Euro delivery especially since I never got to do it with BMW but $6k is a lot for the privilege. Think I’d rather spend the money on a Ring rental

Agreed; the Porsche sport wheel is great though it inexplicably doesn’t have track skip/track back buttons for the infotainment system, at least in the 718

The 987/997.1 generation sport wheel was about perfect from a thickness standpoint

Cool that you can get Oak Green now, but yeah these are spendy. Mine is a pretty basic build, but still over 160K

On the other hand the TWA hotel is pretty cool and this seems like a good excuse to have a drink in the Lockheed bar

Also I don’t have the C/D stats panel for an E28 535 but here is a 1985 Ferrari Testarossa compared to a 2024 X5 50e.

Note also the *braking distances*

FWIW the E28 535 was 31,000 when new, or about 93K today.

Which is not to say I don’t love the E28; it’s glorious. But anyone who tells you cars haven’t gotten better *and cheaper* is not telling you the truth

Every now and then I think about how the midrange power plant on BMWs midrange vehicle now offers nearly 500 hp, can crank off 0-60 times under 4 seconds but still can go 40 miles without burning any gas, and does so in a package unimaginably luxurious by 1980s stds that costs $26,000 in 80s money

In a few billion years, the collected works of our civilization will be dust, orbiting the husk of a dead star. And, finally, no one will be able to play McCartney's Wonderful Christmastime.

It's a vision that fills me with hope

No; I actually don’t like CarPlay compared to even moderately well designed vehicle UIs. Phone integration is key for music etc but I don’t like the CarPlay interface all that much; I prefer BMWs current UI to what CarPlay offers, eg
