Nature’s 10: Ten people who shaped science in 2025 A fired public-health official, a mosquito breeder and a baby with a smile seen around the world. These are just a few of the remarkable people chosen for Nature’s 10.

And congrats to @cdelawalla.bsky.social, founder and CEO of @standupforscience.bsky.social, who is one of Nature's "Ones to watch in 2026"!

Delawalla has been focusing on building resistance to the US government’s targeting of the nation’s scientific enterprise ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

What does mating look like when you only have a single shot at getting it right?

Very excited to share our work on an almost-invisible female control, rapidly evolving mating recognition systems, and species that break the rules and take over the world. IN MOSQUITOES>

A big part of why the White House's destruction feels so visceral is that it's emblematic of a much broader pattern of wantonly chopping up our shared national patrimony and selling it for parts

It's a great story and an excellent documentary. I was especially struck by the parts about discussions with the Cambridge city council. What did you take away from the viewing?

My quote of the day

We have managed to unite a country tearing down the barriers the regime built to divide us. Ours is a fight of a nation united against a criminal tyranny, in defense of its human rights, freedom, and democracy. That is why we have no alternative but victory

Regarding the Compact | MIT Organization Chart

A strong statement from MIT President Sally Kornbluth rejecting Trump's "compact for higher education." I hope other higher ed leaders follow this example.

Brief blurb of the book: In this powerful manifesto, they reveal the 5 maan forces threatening science: plutocrats, pros, petrostates, phonies, and the press. It's a call to arms and a road map for dismantling the forces of antiscience.

I am deeply saddened and angered by news that more NIH RIFs may happen next week. This is unacceptable, especially after NIH staff have worked nights & weekends to dig out from the backlog created by this admin's incompetence.

Tell your Congress people NIH needs its staff to keep delivering cures

My last grant was an R25 focused on introducing undergraduates to aging research to motivate them to address these gaps, be it in research or clinical careers. It was terminated b/c “DEI is bad.”
