Quite often I'll say "There's no time!" in the ZR announcer voice when I have to hurry to do something. Not sure why that stuck with me so hard.

You wonder how in Shadowrun and SR-likes the corps become more powerful than the nation-states.

It's this.

The nation-states stay locked in 20th century tech and mindsets and they just wither. Oh no, we can't put AI on your big beautiful battleships? Dang.

Sure, it's more complex... but...

A greeting card rack holds cards on the theme "Loss of Loved One." Someone has put a cartoony card of a chihuahua in a hat and poncho in the rack. The card says "ADIOS!"

Are you kidding, there's no market for 2013 era roguelike on switch that's crazy talk. The kids these days want the pokemans and the -- hang on something just popped up in my news feed.

"If the bar to game making keeps getting lower, there will be too many games, and the value will descend to zero!"

Don't let an author hear you say that. Their work is so worthless* that institutions gather up piles of it to give away or lend for free. And books are physical things!

*lol no

I have gotten completely sick of the current video game story trope of having older protagonists come back and completely overshadow new characters. So I have put together a short feature that I hope isn't *just* a rant. Please read!

Heard, and I don't entirely disagree, *but*
They *did* replicate Mario
They *did* replicate Doom
They *did* replicate Rogue

Artifacts of the Before Time? Maybe. Minecraft was a replication of Infiniminer, and Fortnite isn't a BR without PUBG, right?

Point being: make video games.

Gamedev truism, the first 90% is easy, it's that last 90% that really gets you.

But ~also~, (I'm almost done I promise) this is very clever on Qud's behalf because it keeps things generally in fiction. Names are generated by the game. In Dungeonmans, players sometimes give weapons names of profound meaning, other times they choose to stack up kills with The Shartwafter 🤷‍♂️

I mean, did Conan not tell us that "da lamentations of da wimmens" is what we strive for in battle? So maybe the weapon means, in baboon, "Woe To They Who Found Out", which is a pretty good baboon deterrent, though they first have to ask you what your weapon is named.

The game is brilliant but my last deep dive into it was a ways back and I smile at the new stuff that I get glimpses of, especially with all the hype about the switch launch.

In this case I like their take on naming weapons, which is a very RPG thing to do, but this is a novel approach.

Tough to balance the desire to face those random threats vs the desire to "get to the adventure" even though yes the journey is the adventure. The GM can always decide that the threats subside for a journey, usually based on player engagement. Getting ambushed a bunch is bad luck, usually.

For a while it was the new hotness (literally) in home lighting. It was just better than candles, more economical, brighter, lasted longer, everybody wins!

Well... everyone except the whales. Extinction was prevented by moving on from the technology. But it was an innovation, for a time.

In general, innovations (big asterisk there) don't go back in the bag/barn/genie bottle, but evolve into better forms in the wild.

I *feel like* that's the case here, but I am not an expert.

Environmental concerns matter. There's a related story here involving whale oil,

I didn't add dragons to Dungeonmans because I didn't think I could really do them justice. Part of that is size, yeah, but like... 2x2 tiles, maybe 3x3? Not the absolute units that most D&D red dragons are ballooned into.
